CHAPTER 3 INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE 8 Flushing Cleaning A CAUTION Before flushing remove the propeller and the forward thrust hub Never start or operate the engine indoors or in any space where is not well ventilated Exhaust gas contains carbon monoxide a colorless and odorless gas which can be fatal if inhaled for any length of time Flushing with the drive cleaner Remove the propeller thrust holder etc Set the drive cleaner to the water strainer Insert the water hose into the drive cleaner and let water run through the hose Set the shift lever in the neutral position and start the engine Check to see if cooling water goes out of the water pump indicator hole and continue engine running at a low speed for 3 to 5 minutes Stop the engine and water supply Then remove the drive cleaner and fit the propeller to the engine Flushing Flushing with the flushing attachment hose adapter Remove the propeller thrust holder etc Stop up the water strainer with tape Remove the water plug from the engine and install the flushing attachment for it Insert the water hose into the flushing attachment and let water run through the hose Set the shift lever in the neutral position and start the engine Check to see if cooling water goes out of the water pump indicator hole and continue engine running at a low speed for 3 to 5 minutes Stop the engine and water supply After removing the flushing attachment and tape fit the propeller thrust holder water plug etc to the engine 30
