CHAPTER 4 POWER UNIT 2 Engine block Plunger Tightening torque 18 22 N m 1 8 2 2 kg m 13 16 Ib ft Piston ring Fitting oil rings to piston 1 Set the spacer expander in the groove of the oil ring and check to see if both the ring ends correctly link with each other as shown in the figure 2 While holding down the slit of the spacer expander by a thumb set the upper side rail as its slit is deviated from the slit of the spacer expander at an angle of 90 counterclockwise Figure 1 and 3 3 In the same manner as the preceding step set the lower side rail as its slit is deviated from the slit of the spacer expander at an angle of 90 clockwise Figure 1 and 3 Mate both ring ends with each other Fitting compression rings to piston Set the compression rings onto the piston in the correct order to start with the lower ring Set each compression ring with the side marked with the trademark and size up Figure 2 Check of correct setting of each piston ring 1 Check to see if the slit of each piston ring is not set in the direction of the piston thrust or piston pin 2 After reassembling is complete make sure again that each piston ring is set as shown in Figure 3 UP Indicates the upper side Fig 2 Locations of each piston ring Top ring Second ring Oil ring Blue Fig 3 Locations of each piston ring gap 50
