9Getting to know your smartphone

7 Phone speaker Emits audio from your smartphone; suitable for holding

to your ear.

8 IR LED Works in conjunction with the proximity sensor.

9 Proximity and light sensor Dims the display and deactivates the touchscreen when

the devie is brought near the face during a call. Adjusts

the display brightness depending on lighting conditions.

10 Home button Returns to the Home screen; press and hold to view

recently-used applications, tap an icon to open the

associated program.

11 Search button Opens the Google search function.

12 Back button Goes back one menu step; closes the keyboard.

13 Menu button Opens the option menu; press and hold to display the

keyboard.

14 Volume up/down button Increases or decreases the phone volume.

15 Camera button Activates the camera or takes a picture. Press down

halfway to auto-focus.
