APPLICATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Plug’n Heat cables are used in piping, water meters and other equipment to prevent freez-
ing. The cable is equipped with a plug for connection to an earthed socket. In permanent
installations the cable should be controlled by either an double-pole switch or a thermostat
and equipped with a strain relief.
Installation drawings:
1. Preventing a water meter from freezing up.
2. The cable installed inside a water pipe using a pressure bushing.
3. The cable attached to the surface of a pipe using a heat resistant tape.
Plug’n Heat cables can be used both indoors and outdoors. The heating cable is self-regulat-
ing and under normal circumstances its temperature will not rise above 60ºC. The cable may
be installed directly on top of either plastic or metal piping underneath the insulation. It can
also be installed directly underwater. The cable can be laid so that it winds over itself.
The cable must not be installed in a situation in which the protective sheath may be exposed
to physical wear. For example, it should not be compressed, laid against sharp edges, placed
under tension, or subject to constant chafi ng.
The minimum bending radius is 40 mm.
The joint between the connecting cable and the heating cable must not be bent.
The connection cable and the joint between the connection cable and the heating cable must
not be pushed into the pressure bushing.
A residual circuit breaker should be used according to the local installation regulations.
The minimum installation temperature for the cable is – 15 °C.
The cable should be connected to the 230 V mains supply through a protective earth socket..

Observe when installing the self-regulating heating cable Optiheat 9 inside a water pipe!
The cable end can be pushed through the rubber seal of the pressure bushing using soap.
The cable should be cautiously pushed through the rubber seal into the water pipe in order
to avoid damaging the cable sheath. The threads and other sharp parts should be covered
with e.g. fabric tape during the installation. .
