6.1 Vacuum pump
Setup
Select an installation location for the vacuum
pump that corresponds with the following
conditions:
• Protected from bumps, falling objects or
similar.
• Protected from moisture.
• Min. 50 cm above fl oor height to prevent
chips and dust from being drawn in through
the ventilation slits [1-4].
• Min. 5 cm from the wall to keep the venti-
lation slits [1-4] free.
• Max. distance of 3 metres from the clam-
ping unit (due to the length of the vacuum
hose).
Connecting the vacuum hose
• Before attaching the vacuum connector,
remove the protective cap [3-3] from the
plug nipple and turn to the side.
• Attach the coupling [3-1] on the vacuum
hose to the connector [3-2].
• Check that the coupling is secure.
• Only disconnect the vacuum hose when the
workpiece is clamped in position: Switch off
the pump fi rst. Then actuate the coupling
and pull off the vacuum hose.
• When a vacuum hose is not connected,
push the protective cap [3-3] onto the con-
nector [3-2] to protect against damage.
Electrical connection
Warning
Risk of accident if the machine is ope-
rated using unauthorised voltages or
frequencies.
-
The mains voltage and the frequency of the
power source must correspond with the spe-
cifi cations on the machine’s name plate.
- In North America, only Festool machines
with a voltage specifi cation of 120 V/60 Hz
may be used.
• Attach the mains cable to the connector
[1-1] [Fig. 4].
• Connect the plug on the mains cable to a
power socket.
6.2 Vacuum clamping unit
Setting up and securing
- Secure the clamping unit to a stable, fl at,
clean, smooth surface of suffi cient size
(recommended set-up height: 60 - 90
cm).
The following options are available for
securing the unit:
Screws
• Secure the clamping unit to the work sur-
face using four screws. Use the four holes
[5-1].
Clamping support
• Secure the clamping unit to the work
surface using the clamping support. The
corners are used as clamping surfaces.
Vacuum
The base surface must be absolutely fl at,
smooth and made from an airtight material.
• Slide the valve [6-1] into position [B] after
connecting and switching on the vacuum
pump.
fCorrect functioning is only guaranteed in
the end positions.
The vacuum force secures the clamping unit
to the base surface.
• To release the clamping unit, slide the valve
[6-1] to position [A].
• Make sure that the hose connected to the
foot valve and the vacuum pump do not
pose a stumbling hazard.
Tilting the suction plate
• Release the clamp lever [7-1].
• Tilt the suction plate [7-2] to the required
position. The tilting range is 0° to 90°.
• Clamp the tilting housing by turning the
clamp lever [7-1] fi rmly in a clockwise
direction.
Turning the suction plate
• Unscrew the rotary knob [8-1].
• Turn the suction plate [8-2] to the required
position.
• Clamp the suction plate by turning the
rotary knob [8-1] as required for the task
in hand.
fAllow the suction cup with attached work-
piece to rotate during work.
Changing the suction plate
Other suction plates are available in different
shapes and sizes as accessories, allowing you
to clamp a wider variety of workpieces.
• Position the suction plate in a vertical po-
sition as shown in [Fig. 8].
