isbeingused.

Caution

- Dependingonthehardnessofthewaterinyourarea,smallspotsmayappear
ontheheatingelementofyourkettlewhenyouuseit.Thisphenomenonis
theresultofscalebuild-upontheheatingelementandontheinsideofthe
kettleovertime.Theharderthewater,thefasterscalebuildsup.Scalecanoccur
indifferentcolours.Althoughscaleisharmless,toomuchscalecaninuence
theperformanceofyourkettle.Descaleyourkettleregularlybyfollowingthe
instructionsgiveninchapter‘Descaling’.
- Somecondensationmayappearonthebaseofthekettle.Thisisperfectly
normalanddoesnotmeanthatthekettlehasanydefects.
- Donotletanywaterrunintothetemperatureknob.
- Thisapplianceisintendedtobeusedinhouseholdandsimilarapplicationssuch
as:
1 staffkitchenareasinshops,ofcesandotherworkingenvironments;
2 farmhouses;
3 byclientsinhotels,motelsandotherresidentialtypeenvironments;
4 bedandbreakfasttypeenvironments.
Boil-dry protection
Thiskettleisequippedwithboil-dryprotection.Thisdeviceautomaticallyswitches
offthekettleifitisaccidentallyswitchedonwhenthereisnowaterornotenough
waterinit.Theon/offswitchgoesto‘off’positionandthepower-onlightgoesout.
Letthekettlecooldownfor10minutes.Thenliftitfromitsbasetoresettheboil-dry
protection.Thekettleisnowreadyforuseagain.
Electromagnetic elds (EMF)
ThisPhilipsappliancecomplieswithallstandardsregardingelectromagneticelds
(EMF).Ifhandledproperlyandaccordingtotheinstructionsinthisusermanual,the
applianceissafetousebasedonscienticevidenceavailabletoday.
Before first use
1 Place the base on a dry, at and stable surface.
2 To adjust the length of the cord, push part of it into the cord slot in the
base. (Fig. 2)
3 Rinse the kettle with water.
4 Fill the kettle with water up to the 5-cup level. Let the water boil once (see
chapter ‘Using the appliance’).
5 Pour out the hot water and rinse the kettle once more.
Using the appliance
1 Fill the kettle with water. You can ll the kettle either through the spout or
through the open lid. (Fig. 3)
Toensurethatthekettleheatsthewatertothesettemperature,llthekettletothe
4-cuplevel.
2 Close the lid.
Makesurethatthelidisproperlyclosedtopreventthekettlefromboilingdry.
3 Place the kettle on its base and put the plug in the wall socket.
4 Turn the temperature knob to select the desired temperature setting (Fig. 4).
- Topreparewaterforbeveragesthatrequirewarmwater(suchasgreentea),
turnthetemperatureknobtoasettingbetweenMINandtherstcupindication.
- Topreparewaterforbeveragesthatrequirehotwater(suchascoffee),turnthe
temperatureknobtoasettingbetweentherstandsecondcupindication.
- Toboilwater,turnthetemperatureknobtoasettingbetweenthesecondcup
indicationandMAX.
5 Push down the on/off switch to switch on the kettle.
, The power-on light goes on and the kettle starts to heat up.
, The kettle automatically switches off and the power-on light goes out when
the water reaches the set temperature.
Note: To interrupt the heating or boiling process, switch off the kettle.
Cleaning
Always unplug the appliance before you clean it.
Never use scouring pads, abrasive cleaning agents or aggressive liquids such as
petrol or acetone to clean the appliance.
Never immerse the kettle or its base in water.
1 Clean the outside of the kettle with a soft cloth moistened with warm water
and some mild cleaning agent.
Scaleisnotharmfultoyourhealthbutitmaygiveyourdrinkapowderytaste.The
scalelterpreventsscaleparticlesfromendingupinyourdrink.Cleanthescalelter
regularly.
Youcancleanthelterinthreeways:
, leave the lter in the kettle when you descale the whole appliance (see
chapter ‘Descaling’);
, take the lter out of the kettle and gently brush it with a soft nylon brush
under a running tap; (Fig. 5)
, take the lter out of the kettle and clean it in the dishwasher.
2 After you have cleaned the lter under the tap or in the dishwasher, push
the lter back into the spout until it clicks into place (Fig. 6).
Descaling
Toprolongthelifeofthekettle,descaleitregularly.
Incaseofnormaluse(upto5timesaday),werecommendthefollowingdescaling
frequency:
- Onceevery3monthsforsoftwaterareas(upto18dH).
- Onceeverymonthforhardwaterareas(morethan18dH).
