INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

Before starting the engine always check:

– The engine oil levels; the level cap is on the top casing (fig. 4); the oil level must be between the two

rims.

– That all nuts and bolts are firmly tightened.

– That all levers are in neutral position.

– That the air filter is clean.

– Fill the tank with fuel using a funnel with a very fine filter.

Once the engine has started, release the choke and accelerate gradually.

Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes before starting work.

STARTING THE ENGINE

Turn on the fuel tap and set the throttle lever in the mid position, and if the engine is cold, operate the choke

on the carburettor (follow the instructions in the engine manual) (fig. 5).

Pull the pull-start handle slowly until resistance is felt, then give a sharp pull: in all cases, follow the

instructions in the engine manual (fig. 1 - ref. 3).

STARTING WORK

Bring the engine to the maximum rpm. Make sure there is no-one in the vicinity of the cutting area, engage

the string rotation lever and start work (fig. 1 N° 2).

Models HWT 375 and HWT 550 TILT do not have a wheel drive system and are push-type, while model

HWT 600 WD is self-propelled. To engage the wheel drive, use lever N° 9 fig. 2; the bush-cutter stops

when the lever is released. In the 550 TILT version it is possible to recline the cutting head on the right

or on the left, in order to have a ground-shaving cutting.

CHANGING THE STRING

CAUTION! Never replace the string with the engine running.

If the cutting string is worn, it must be replaced; use original strings with square section 3x3, length 530 mm.

If the engine labours, shorten the strings slightly. To change, proceed as follows:

1. Tie the string in the centre as shown in fig. 6;

2. Insert the 2 strings from the inside (fig. 7). CAUTION: do not fit the strings at different heights, as the

engine will labour and cutting quality will be poor.

ADJUSTING THE CUTTING HEIGHT

To adjust the cutting height, insert the strings in the holes at the various heights (fig.8 pos. A-B-C-D).

In position D the string is flush with the ground; this is the ideal position for removing weeds from paving

stones. If the ground is very uneven, set the strings in the highest position.

To set the string plate in positions C and D, adjust the M8 screw, fig. 11, (tighten the screw firmly to 2.5

kg F.m).

ROTATING THE WHEEL AXLE FOR SIDEWAYS TILT MOD. HWT 550 TILT

Model HWT 550 TILT has 3 working positions: central, right or left.

The sideways shift is very useful for working close to walls or pavements.

To set the angle, proceed as follows:

– Raise the wheel slightly above the ground, press the positioning pedal down with a foot and move the

wheels (fig. 3 N° 7).

FINISHING WORK

When work is over, to stop the engine move the throttle lever to the stop limit position and turn off the fuel

tap (if present).
