Daikin ER3DAT1 [6/10] Normal operation
Operation manual

ER3~10DA
Air-cooled condensing units
4PW00411-1C
Normal operation
Under normal circumstances the condensing unit is directly
controlled by the remote control of the air conditioner. No separate
control devices are provided on the condensing unit.
Refer to the operation manual of the corresponding air conditioner for
the operation of the remote control.
When the condensing unit has been out of service for a longer
period, it is recommended to go through the checklist "Checks before
initial start-up" on page 3, and to carry out a test run.

SHOOTING
This section provides useful information for diagnosing and
correcting certain troubles which may occur in the condensing unit.
Before starting the trouble shooting procedure, carry out a thorough
visual inspection of the unit and look for obvious defects such as
loose connections or defective wiring.
Before contacting your local Daikin dealer, read this chapter carefully,
it will save you time and money.
When a safety device was activated, stop the unit and, before
resetting it, find out why the safety device was activated. Under no
circumstances safety devices may be bridged or changed to a value
other than the one set at the factory. If the cause of the trouble cannot
be found, call your local Daikin dealer.
Symptom 1: Condensing unit does not start (neither the compressor nor
the condenser fan)
Symptom 2: One of the following safety devices is activated:
The pressures measured will vary between a maximum
and minimum value, depending on the indoor and outdoor
temperatures (at the moment of measurement).
Minimum Nominal Maximum
(outdoor temp. 0°CDB)
(indoor temp. 19°CDB)
(outdoor temp. 35°CDB)
(indoor temp. 27°CDB)
(outdoor temp. 40°CDB)
(indoor temp. 32°CDB)
Low pressure
(gas line)
3 bar 4 bar 6 bar
High pressure
(liquid line)
6 bar 19 bar 24 bar
NOTE
The values indicated in the above table may vary
according to the type of air conditioner connected.
The minimum values are not valid in case a head
pressure control kit is installed.
Emergency stop
In case of emergency, immediately switch off the circuit
breaker on the local supply panel or the remote control, if it
is nearby.
When carrying out an inspection on the supply panel or on
the switch box of the condensing unit, always make sure
that the circuit breaker of the condensing unit and of the air
conditioner is switched off and that no voltage is present on
the unit.
POSSIBLE CAUSES CORRECTIVE ACTION
Remote control is “OFF” or the
temperature setting is too high.
Check the remote control.
Lock-out timer is still active. The unit will start automatically after
approx. 3 minutes.
One of the following safety devices is
activated:
•Overcurrent relay of compressor (F1S)
High-pressure switch (S1PH)
•Low-pressure switch (S2PL)
Compressor thermal protector (Q1M) (only
for ER3DA units)
Discharge thermal protector (Q1D) (not for
ER3DA units)
•Reverse phase protector (R1P) (not for
ER3DAV1 units)
Refer to "Symptom 2: One of the fol-
lowing safety devices is activated:"
on page 5.
Power supply failure Check the voltage on the supply
panel.
Blown fuse or interrupted protection
device
Inspect fuses and protection
devices. Replace by fuses of the
same size and type (Refer to
"Electrical specifications" on page 1).
Loose connections Inspect connections of the field
wiring and the internal wiring of the
unit. Tighten all loose connections.
Shorted or broken wires Test circuits using a tester and repair
if necessary.
Symptom 2.1: Overcurrent relay (F1S) of compressor
POSSIBLE CAUSES CORRECTIVE ACTION
Failure of one of the phases Check fuses on the supply panel or
measure the supply voltage
Voltage too low Measure the supply voltage
Overload of motor Only for ER3DA units.
Reset. If the failure persists, call
your local Daikin dealer.
RESET
Push the red button on the over-
current relay (F1S) inside the
switch box of the condensing unit.
For ER5, ER8 and ER10DA units.
If the failure persists, call your local
Daikin dealer.
Symptom 2.2: Low-pressure switch (S2PL)
POSSIBLE CAUSES CORRECTIVE ACTION
Fan of air conditioner switched off Refer to the operation manual of the
corresponding air conditioner.
Dirty air filter of air conditioner Clean or replace the air filter. Refer
to the operation manual of the
corresponding air conditioner.
Service panel of the air conditioner is
open and the air does not circulate
over the evaporator.
Close the service panel.
Dirty evaporator coil of the air
conditioner
Clean the evaporator coil. Refer to
the operation manual of the air
conditioner.
Shortage of refrigerant Check for leaks and refill refrigerant,
if necessary.
The option “head pressure control
kit” is not installed properly.
Check the wiring of the head
pressure control kit.
RESET
After pressure rise, the low-
pressure switch is reset
automatically.
