signalcanbesenttoeitheroftwoplaces—themain

senttothemainmix.Itdoesnotinterruptothersignals,
justaddsitselftothem.Thisswitchcanbeveryhandy
inalivesoundsituationwhenyouwanttoplaysoothing
elevatormusictoananxiouscrowd.
WARNING:Engagingtapetomainmixcan
createafeedbackpathbetweentapeinput
[12]andtapeoutput[11].Makesureyour
tapedeckisnotinrecord,record-pauseorinput
monitormodewhenyouengagethisswitch,orthat
thetapein[40]levelknobisturnedfullydown.

Typically,theengineersendsthemainmixtoan
audienceortoamixdowndeck(ifrecording).Butwhat
iftheengineerneedstohearsomethingotherthanthe
mainmix?Withthe1604VLZ4,theengineerhasseveral
choicesofwhattolistento.Thisisoneofthosetricky
parts—haveadoubleespressorst.
Usingtheseswitches,youcanchoosetolistentoany
combinationofmainmix,subs1-2,subs3-4andtape.
Selectionsmadeheredeliverstereosignalstothe
controlroom,headphones,andmeterdisplay.These
signalsaretappedoffasfollows—post-mainmixfader,
postsubgroupfaders[38],andpost-tapein[40]knob.
Withnoswitchesengaged,therewillbenosignal
attheseoutputsandnometerindication,withtwo
exceptions:soloandstereoreturn4.
Regardlessofthesourcematrixselection,engaging
asoloswitchwillreplacethatselectionwiththesolo
signal,alsosenttothecontrolroom,headphones,and
meterdisplay.Thisiswhatmakesthelevel-setting
proceduresoeasy.

tosendtotheengineer’scontrolroomand/orphones.
