9.1 SAFETY CHECKS
WARNING
Before using the machine, check that the safety devices work properly each time. If
there are malfunctions, do not continue with the work; instead, work on the
problem, following the relevant chapters of the instructions for use or contacting
the dealer.
WARNING
Using a machine with malfunctioning safety devices can lead to serious or fatal
injuries.
WARNING
Repeat the checks if the machine is subjected to improper stresses (impacts, falls
and crushing).
1. Make sure the chain brake works correctly and is not damaged.
2. Make sure the throttle lock works correctly and is not damaged.
3. Make sure the stop button works correctly and is not damaged.
4. Check that the throttle trigger and throttle lock, if released, quickly return to neutral.
5. Make sure the handles are dry and clean and firmly secured.
6. Make sure the vibration damping system works correctly and is not damaged.
7. Make sure the muffler works correctly and is not damaged.
8. Make sure all parts are assembled correctly and are not damaged or missing.
9. Make sure that the chain stop is connected correctly.
10. Make sure that the chain is not moving when the engine is idling.
11. Make sure that the chain tension is correct and that the chain is not damaged.
12. Check for fuel leaks.
9.2 KICKBACKS, SKIDDING, BOUNCING AND FALLING
WARNING
Reaction forces can occur during chain rotation and can affect the safe control of
the chain saw. These forces can be very dangerous as they result in movement and/
or loss of control of the chain saw which can cause serious injury or death.
Understanding these forces helps you to reduce the corresponding risks.
The most common reactive forces are:
• Skidding: occurs when the bar slips or moves quickly on the wood.
• Bouncing: occurs when the bar lifts off the wood and hits it repeatedly.
• Falling: occurs when the chain saw falls down at the end of the cut. This can cause the
moving chain to touch parts of the body or other objects, causing injury or damage.
