Firmly grip the chain saw with both hands, fully grasping the handles with your hands
and fingers. Never let go of your grip. Keep your left arm straight with the elbow
locked. Position your body and arms so that you can withstand kickback and reaction
forces. Gripping the chain saw correctly reduces kickback and reaction forces and improves
control over the machine.
Never reverse the position of the right and left hand under any circumstances.
Maintain a balanced position on both feet.
Do not overreach and do not cut above shoulder height; This helps prevent unintended
tip contact, helps avoid being off balance, and enables better control of the chain saw in
unexpected situations.
Maintain control of the chain saw when cutting and when the wood falls after the cut is
complete. Do not let the weight of the chain saw make it drop down when the cut is
complete.
Safety devices against kickback
WARNING
The following devices are included with your chain saw to reduce the risk of
kickback and other reaction forces. Such devices do not completely eliminate such
dangerous reactions. As the operator of the chain saw, do not completely rely on
these devices. You must follow all safety precautions, instructions and maintenance
procedures described in this manual to avoid kickback and other reaction forces
that can cause serious injury or death.
Guide bar: a bar with a small end radius, it reduces the kickback hazard zone on the bar.
Only use bars approved by the chain saw manufacturer and listed in this manual (see Table
1 Recommended bar and chain combinations).
The low kickback chains listed in this manual (see Table 1 Recommended bar and chain
combinations) meet the low kickback requirements when tested according to the
appropriate standards. Use only chains approved by the chain saw manufacturer.
The front guard is designed to reduce the possibility of the left hand coming into contact
with the chain if it slips from the front handle; it is also designed to activate the chain brake
when pressed forward or moved forward by inertial forces.
The front and rear handles are designed with appropriate distances between them and in
line with each other in order to give balance and resistance in controlling the chain saw
when the latter moves towards the operator in the event of a kickback.
The chain brake is designed to quickly stop the moving chain. When the brake lever/front
guard is pushed forward towards the bar, the chain should stop immediately. The chain
brake limits the consequences of kickback but does not prevent it. The chain brake
should be cleaned and tested before each use of the chain saw.
The chain tensioning device is designed to allow the operator to adjust the chain
appropriately: a slack chain increases the possibility of kickback and other reactive forces.
9.3 CHAIN BRAKE
The inertial chain brake is a very safe device in the use of the chainsaw. It protects the user from
any dangerous kickbacks that could occur during the various work phases. It is activated,
resulting in an instantaneous locking of the chain, when the operator’s hand presses the lever
