10.1 CHECKS AND MAINTENANCE OF SAFETY DEVICES

10.1.1 Checking the brake band

1. Clean the brake and clutch drum by removing sawdust, resin and dirt. Dirt and wear can

reduce brake function.

2. Check the brake band. The brake band must be at least 0.3 mm thick at the point of greatest

wear.

10.1.2 Checking the handguard

1. Check that the handguard is intact and without obvious defects, such as cracks.

2. Make sure the handguard moves freely and is securely attached.

3. Make sure that the chain brake is activated when moving the lever forward.

CAUTION

Throttle only with the chain brake released. The high number of revolutions with

the brake locked (chain stopped) causes failure of the engine, clutch and brake in a

short time.

10.1.3 Checking the chain brake

1. Start the unit. For instructions, see chapter 7 STARTING.

2. Hold the unit firmly.

3. Apply full throttle and tilt your left wrist towards the handguard to activate the chain brake.

The chainsaw should stop immediately.

WARNING

Do not let go of the front handle when engaging the chain brake.

10.1.4 Checking the throttle and throttle lock

1. Check that the throttle and the throttle lock move freely and that the return springs work

correctly.

2. Lower the throttle lock and make sure it returns to its starting position when released.

3. Make sure that the throttle is locked to idle when the throttle lock is released.

4. Start the chainsaw and increase throttle to maximum.

5. Release the throttle and make sure that the chain stops and remains stationary.

WARNING

If the chain turns with the throttle trigger at idle, contact your service dealer.
