17 TROUBLESHOOTING
WARNING
Always stop the tool and remove the spark plug before carrying out any of the
corrective checks recommended in the table below, except when they require the
tool to be operational.
When all possible causes have been checked and the problem is not resolved, consult an
Authorized Service Center. If a problem occurs that is not listed in this table, consult an
Authorized Service Center.
PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSES SOLUTION
The engine does not start or
turns off only a few seconds
after starting.
There is no spark.
Check the spark of the spark
plug. If there is no spark, repeat
the test with a new spark plug.
Engine flooded.
Follow procedure 7.3.1 Flooded
engine. If the engine still does
not start, repeat the procedure
with a new spark plug.
The engine starts, but does not
accelerate properly or does not
run properly at high speed.
The carburetor needs to be
adjusted.
Contact an Authorized Service
Center to adjust the carburetor.
The engine does not reach full
speed and/or emits excessive
smoke.
Check the oil/fuel mixture.
Use fresh gasoline and a suitable
2-stroke engine oil.
Dirty air filter.
Clean: see instructions in chapter
10.5 AIR FILTER.
The carburetor needs to be
adjusted.
Contact an Authorized Service
Center to adjust the carburetor.
The engine starts, runs, and
accelerates but will not idle.
The carburetor needs to be
adjusted.
Adjust the idle screw (T, Fig. 25)
clockwise to increase the speed;
see chapter 10.12 CARBURETOR.
Bar and chain heat up and
smoke during operation.
Empty chain oil tank.
The oil tank must be refilled
every time the fuel tank is filled.
Chain tension too tight.
Chain tensioning; see
instructions in chapter 5.1 BAR
AND CHAIN.
Malfunction of the lubrication
system.
Run at full throttle for 15-30
seconds. Stop and check that the
oil is dripping from the tip of the
bar. If oil is present, the
malfunction may be caused by
the slack chain or the damaged
bar. If there is no oil, contact an
Authorized Service Center.
