If correctly installed, this component will give you extraordinary listening pleasure. Please carefully follow
the instructions you will find in this manual in order to exploit these speakers qualities at best.
In order to build high quality hi-fi car systems, you need to know the cars mechanic and acoustic
problems well; if you think not to have the right tools or the necessary experience, please contact a
specialised installer.
A state-of-the-art installation will insure you thrilling performances without affecting your car safety
and reliability.

LONG EXPOSURE TO EXCESSIVELY HIGH SOUND PRESSURE LEVEL MAY DAMAGE YOUR
HEARING; THEREFORE, PLEASE USE COMMON SENSE AND PRATICE SAFE SOUND.
Safety must be at the first place while driving; you should always be able to hear the noise generated
by your car or coming from the outside, in order to promptly face possible emergency situations.
Recommendations
HERTZ ENERGY EBX speakers were designed to integrate their acoustic response with the latest
cars compartment response; therefore, they are perfectly suitable to customised, complex installations.
Let us remind you that the speaker is not a complete element: the system it is used into, the way it
is installed and the system tuning will directly affect acoustic performances and reliability. The speaker
warranty is void if the product is used in wrong or improper ways.
Below, you will find some useful tips; please contact your dealer for any doubts.
Technology
Designed to provide bursting dynamics and to minimise size requirements, EBX products result from
long studies about car compartment acoustics. These boxes have a truncated pyramid section and
double inclination walls, not to affect sound; they are made of very thick MDF, in order for them to be
inert and stable. The original die-cast steel grille eliminates direct resonances and compression.
The anti-scratch, molded polyamide and epoxy finish, as well as the absence of sharp corners, eases
the box placement and makes installation safer. R reflex enclosures provide complete, fast, clear
sound and thrilling punch; they are perfect for rock and pop music. B models bandpass configuration
offers wide, linear bass response; they are very good for jazz and classical music.

Connecting your subwoofer
ENERGY EBX series offer monophonic and two channel typology of subwoofer box.
Due to high sensitivity of these speakers, it’s possible to obtain systems with explosive dynamics and
very high SPL values by using two or more of them connected in series or in parallel. For the connection
modes and the effective load refer to the enclosed drawings. (see 1)
EBX 202 R, sub box with double subwoofer and double terminals, can be connected in different ways
in order to make load suitable to the amplifier used. If you have a stereo amplifier for the subwoofer
section it is possible to connect the two speakers to the two channels (stereo loading = 4 ohm).
If you have a mono amplifier we would suggest that you connect the two speakers in parallel (mono
loading = 2 ohm).
Among the manufacturer’s specifications, please check the minimum impedance the amplifier
accepts and don’t go below it. (see 2)
Choosing your cable
Power cables are extremely important since they directly affect the system damping factor; in the
enclosed table, we show cable diameters, which we recommend according to length and applied
power. (see 3)
Tuning
After finishing your box and installing it in your car, you need to spend some time to tune your system
and calibrate your amplifier:
• The amplifier gain level should be adjusted in order to keep power in a linear functioning area, without
distortion or saturation that might damage the speaker. If the amplifier has a device that notifies
distortion, adjust the gain so that the led lights only with signal peaks, with the head unit volume at 75%.
• Cut-off frequency should be between 50 and 100 Hz, according to the model you use. If you want
a more powerful and punch sound, keep the cut-off frequency higher, while the lower limits are better
to obtain soft and full-bodied sound. (see A)
• If possible, use subsonic filter by setting its cut-off frequency around 25 Hz. (see B)
• Avoid to use loudness or equalisers at low frequencies (<150 Hz): ENERGY EBX subwoofers have
full, smooth response and don’t need any corrections that might cause the amplifier saturation or
distortion. (see C)
• The subwoofer connection phase determines acoustic results and needs to be tested by listening
to it. It might be necessary to invert it according to the configuration of main speakers and of other
electronic devices in the system. Make some listening tests in both ways and choose the solution you
prefer. (see 2)
• It is very difficult to know in advance the results you will get in your car compartment and you’d
better make some tests by moving the subwoofer box and the port and speaker emitting direction.
You can adjust bass also by changing the subwoofer position inside the trunk. We recommend you
to make these checks before designing the complete installation. (see D)
Warranty restrictions
Please carefully read warranty terms and keep both the manual and the original box.
HERTZ has restricted warranty, according to the terms written below:
Warranty duration: 2 years
Subject: This warranty is valid only for HERTZ products sold by HERTZ authorised dealers.
Object: Products found to be defective during the warranty period will be repaired or replaced with an
equivalent product at HERTZ’s discretion.
Warranty is void:
1. For damages caused by accidents, abuse, improper operation, water, theft.
2. If after sale service is performed by anyone other than HERTZ authorised service centers.
3. If serial number has been spoiled, altered or removed from the product.
4. For damages caused by overdriving or excessive distorsion due to non-linear functioning of
power supply.
HERTZ accepts no liabilities for possible damages that result from disregarding what is written in this
manual.
