4. STARTING THE ENGINE cont.
Step 7. Position the throttle lever for the desired engine speed.
Moving the throttle lever towards the HIGH position will increase the pump output.
Moving the throttle lever towards the LOW position will decrease the pump output.
For safety, never pump flammable or corrosive liquids such as petrol or acid. To avoid pump
corrosion never pump sea water, chemical solutions, caustic liquids eg. used oil, wine or milk.
If the engine stops and will not restart, check the engine oil level and fuel tank level before further
troubleshooting.
Low Oil Alert System
The low oil alert system is designed to prevent engine damage caused by an insufficient amount
of oil in the crankcase. Before the oil level in the crankcase falls below a safe limit, the low oil alert
system will automatically shut down the engine, even when the engine switch is in the ON position.
If the low oil alert system shuts down the engine, check the oil level and add the recommended
engine oil.
High Altitude Operation
At higher altitudes, the standard carburettor air-fuel mixture will be excessively rich. Performance
will decrease, and fuel consumption will increase.
High altitude performance can be improved by installing a smaller diameter main fuel jet in the
carburettor. If you always operate the generator at altitudes higher than 1800m (6000 feet) above
sea level, have your authorised dealer install a high altitude main jet.
Even with suitable carburettor jetting, engine horsepower will decrease approximately 3.5% for
each 300m (1000 feet) in increased altitude. The affect of altitude on the reduction of horsepower
will be greater if no carburettor modification is made.
Operation of the water pump at an altitude lower than the carburettor is jetted may result in
reduced performance , overheating and serious engine damage caused by the excessively lean
air / fuel mixture.
4. STARTING THE ENGINE
Before starting the engine:
Step 1. Turn the fuel tap to ON position.
Step 2. Move the choke lever to CHOKE position.
Step 3. Move the throttle lever to the centre position
half way between HIGH and LOW.
Step 4. Turn the engine switch to the On position.
Step5. Pull the starter grip until resistance is felt, then pull firmly.
Do not allow the starter grip to snap back, Return it slowly by hand.
Step 6. Move the choke lever to the RUN position
after the engine has started.
