PPPoE
Use the following procedure to configure PPPoE:
1. Connect the V2416-LX’s LAN port to an ADSL modem with a cross-over cable, HUB, or switch.
2. Log in to the V2416-LX as the root user.
3. Edit the file /etc/ppp/chap-secrets and add the following:
“username@hinet.net” * “password” *
# Secrets for authentication using CHAP
# client server secret IP addresses
# PPPOE example, if you want to use it, you need to unmark it and modify it
“
username@hinet.net” * “password” *
username@hinet.net is the username obtained from the ISP to log in to the ISP account. password is
the corresponding password for the account.
4. Edit the file /etc/ppp/pap-secrets and add the following:
“username@hinet.net” * “password” *
# ATTENTION: The definitions here can allow users to login without a
# password if you don’t use the login option of pppd! The mgetty Debian
# package already provides this option; make sure you don’t change that.
# INBOUND connections
# Every regular user can use PPP and has to use passwords from /etc/passwd
* hostname ““ *
“username@hinet.net” * “password” *
# UserIDs that cannot use PPP at all. Check your /etc/passwd and add any
# other accounts that should not be able to use pppd!
guest hostname “*” -
master hostname “*” -
root hostname “*” -
support hostname “*” -
stats hostname “*” -
# OUTBOUND connections
username@hinet.net is the username obtained from the ISP to log in to the ISP account. password is
the corresponding password for the account.
