10. DEFINITIONS AND CALCULATION RULES

This section explains the definitions and calculation formulas that Suunto G6 uses.

Backswing length indicates the length of your backswing, in degrees.

Consistency index is a measure of how accurately you repeat similar swings, the

lower number the better. A lower consistency index means that there is less variation

in the measured parameters, making your technique more solid. The Suunto G6 con-

sistency test provides a statistically comparable result, based on a pre-defined num-

ber of swings with a specific club.

Course handicap (Course HCP) is the adjusted course handicap for the current

course and tee you are playing. The Course HCP is calculated from your Handicap

Index, using the following formula:

Course HCP = (HANDICAP INDEX x SLOPE RATING) / 113 + (COURSE RATING - PAR)

On courses that have 9 holes, the par is multiplied by 2.

Course Rating (C.R.) represents the difficulty of a course for scratch golfers (0-hand-

icap) under normal course and weather conditions. The course rating is used to

adjust your course handicap for a specific set of tees.

Fairway hit (FIR) determines whether your opening shot landed on the fairway. It is

registered only on holes where the par is greater than 3. (On par 3’s the opening shot

should land on the green.)

The following formula is used to calculate the FIR percentage:

Green in Regulation (GIR) determines your ability to play the fairway in a regulated

number of shots, so that you have at least 2 putts left for playing a par.
