Carry out installation according to the drawings:

1. Plan and draw the size and location of the FinnMat. Carefully mark the positions of the cold cable

connection, the free end of the cable and the oor sensor of the thermostat. Keep this drawing to-

gether with other documents of the electrical installations.

2. Drill an approximately 10 mm deep groove for the thermostat sensor tube. The top surface of the

plastic tube should not be installed higher than the top surface of the cable. The curve in the tubing

must be gentle enough to permit the sensor to be replaced later, if necessary (see also gure 4).

3. The end of the sensor tube should be made watertight, using e.g. electrical tape.

4. The cold cable is pushed into the installation tubing which is then extended to the junction box. The

cable should neither cross the heating cable nor touch it. Thermostat sensor should be positioned

in the centre of a heating cable loop, making sure that the sensor cable neither crosses nor touches

the heating cable.

5. The heating mat can be cut as shown in the picture. The cutting should be done very carefully to

avoid any damage to the heating cable.

6. The heating mat is rolled out with the adhesive side of the mat towards the oor. The adhesive pre-

vents the mat from moving during the casting of concrete. Floor drains, sinks etc. can be bypassed as

shown in the drawing. If the cable is removed from the net, it must be xed carefully to the oor. Hot

setting adhesive or aluminum tape can be used.

7. The loop resistance and insulation resistance of the cable shall be measured before casting the oor.

These measurements are then repeated after casting. The measurement results and other informa-

tion should be entered in the table in this instruction.

8. The heating cable should be covered with oor leveling compound for heated oors, making sure

that the cable, the cold cable connection and the sensor tube are covered entirely. Air gaps between

the heating cable and the leveling compound have to be avoided. The dry leveling compound can

be covered with parquet, cork or plastic mat, or oor clinker.

9. The drawing shows the way how to achieve protection against moisture (if necessary) in wet rooms

e.g. shower rooms. If the heating cable is laid in a room where no moisture barrier is needed, stages

6, 7 and 8 can be ignored. The method shown in Fig. 9 for achieving water insulation is based on the

requirements of Finnish Building Construction Authorities. Water insulation should be carried out

according to national standards.

10. FinnMat heating element shall be controlled by a oor thermostat with a maximum temperature

limit of + 35 °C and it is to be supplied through a residual current device having a rated residual

operating current not exceeding 30 mA. A label containing the type of the heating mat, the location

and other information of the installation is to be xed to the distribution board.
