1.3 Third Series - Stylus Pro XL+, Stylus COLOR 500, & Stylus COLOR 200

This is a brief summary of the Third Series of EPSON color inkjet printers. This section of the

Programming Guide applies to the following printers:

EPSON Stylus Pro XL +,

EPSON Stylus COLOR 500,

EPSON Stylus COLOR 200

The EPSON Stylus Pro XL +, EPSON Stylus COLOR 500, and EPSON Stylus COLOR 200 are

the successors to the EPSON Stylus Pro XL, EPSON Stylus COLOR II, and EPSON Stylus

COLOR IIs, respectively. The EPSON Stylus Pro XL + was sold in Japan and Europe, but not in

America. Both the EPSON Stylus COLOR 500 and the EPSON Stylus COLOR 200 were sold

worldwide.

The EPSON Stylus Pro XL+ had new color and black print heads, which improved the uni-

directional, print speed by about 30%. The magenta ink formulation was also new. Even though

the EPSON Stylus Pro XL + has the same size ink cartridge as the EPSON Stylus Pro XL, the

color ink cartridges have different part numbers and are not interchangeable. The black ink

cartridges are the same. Like the EPSON Stylus Pro XL, the EPSON Stylus Pro XL + is a wide

carriage printer which can support up to Super A3/B paper size (12.95”x19.02”).

The EPSON Stylus COLOR 500 featured a new monochrome and a new color print head design.

Also, the ink formulations were new for all four colors (C, M, Y, and K). The new ink

formulation resulted in improved print quality even on plain paper at 720 DPI printing mode.

The EPSON Stylus COLOR 200, a three-color printer, uses the same new color print head and

color ink cartridge as the EPSON Stylus COLOR 500. The black ink cartridge and the black

print head are carried over from its predecessor, the EPSON Stylus COLOR IIs.

Both the EPSON Stylus COLOR 500 and EPSON Stylus COLOR 200 produce better print

quality than their predecessors do.

The selectable “dot size” feature, which was introduced in the EPSON Second Series of Stylus

COLOR printers, is available in the EPSON Stylus Pro XL+ (both monochrome and color print

modes) and the EPSON Stylus COLOR 200 (monochrome print mode only). The EPSON Stylus

COLOR 500 does not support the selectable dot size feature in either black or color.
