1.4 Fourth Series - Stylus COLOR 3000/1520/ 800 /850/ 600 & Stylus COLOR 400
This is a brief summary of EPSON’s Fourth Series (current models) of color ink jet printers. This
part of the Programming Guide applies to the following printers:
International Model Name Japan Model Name
EPSON Stylus COLOR 400 MJ-830C
EPSON Stylus COLOR 600 N/A
EPSON Stylus COLOR 800 MJ-930C
EPSON Stylus COLOR 1520 MJ-6000C
EPSON Stylus COLOR 3000 MJ-8000C
EPSON Stylus COLOR 850 N/A
With this series of printers, EPSON has totally upgraded the entire inkjet printer line. The 3-color
ink jet printer category has been eliminated the by the introduction of the new low cost four-color
Stylus COLOR 400.
The EPSON Stylus COLOR 600 and EPSON Stylus COLOR 800 are the successors to the
EPSON Stylus COLOR 500 and the EPSON Stylus Pro, respectively. The EPSON Stylus
COLOR 1520 replaces the Stylus 1500; the EPSON Stylus COLOR 3000 replaces the EPSON
Stylus ProXL+. The EPSON Stylus COLOR 600 is available worldwide, except in Japan. The
other models are available worldwide.
The EPSON Stylus COLOR 400 is an ESC/P Raster printer that does not support any internal
fonts and font commands – it is an ESC/P Raster printer only.
The EPSON Stylus COLOR 1520 is the wide carriage printer version of the Stylus COLOR 800
and supports up to A2 and US-C paper sizes (13.6 inch printable width). Also, this printer has a
built-in tractor feed unit.
The Stylus COLOR 3000 is a large format four-color ink jet printer that is targeted towards the
commercial graphic arts community. The Stylus COLOR 3000 supports up to US-C and A2 paper
sizes in cut-sheet and banner paper. The Stylus COLOR uses larger individual ink cartridges for
each C, M, Y, and K as the graphic art market requires.
Although the EPSON Stylus COLOR 3000, 1520, 850, 800, and 600 support printing up to
1440x720 DPI, the EPSON developed driver technique used to achieve this printing mode is
proprietary. For that reason, there is little published information available for an ISV to support
1440x720 DPI in their driver development efforts. What can be disclosed is documented in this
Programming Guide. See Chapter 4: New ESC/P2 Commands for commands associated with
high resolution 1440x720 DPI printing.
See Tables 1 and 2 for Stylus COLOR printer feature summary comparisons.
