THE AMOUNT OF BONE TISSUE IN THE BODY
The weight of our bones depends on the body composition, physical activity, health condi-
tion. We should remember that physical activity strengthens the bones. This, however, is not
a big change and in fact we do not feel this on a daily basis or when measuring the body com-
position. In this kind of measurements it is an additional information about the total weight
of our body.
An estimate of bone mass in the body (kg)
Woman Man
Weight <45 kg 45-60 kg >60 kg <60 kg 60-75 kg >75kg
Mass of bone tissue 1.8 kg 2.2 kg 2.5 kg 2.5 kg 2.9 kg 3.2 kg
An accurate estimate of bone mass is impossible in case of individuals who suffer from osteo-
porosis or low bone density due to advanced age, young age, pregnancy, hormonal treatment.
THE DAILY CALORIE INTAKE INDEX (BMR).
The basal metabolic rate (BMR) is an estimate of the amount of energy (measured in calories)
consumed by the body during rest to ensure the proper functioning of the body. This con-
tinuous operation consumes about 60-70% of calories and includes heart beat, respiration
and maintenance of body temperature. The BMR index in influences by a number of factors,
including age, weight, height, sex, diet and lifestyle.
