Symptom 3: Condensing unit stops frequently
Symptom 4: Condensing unit runs continuously and the room
temperature remains higher than the temperature set on the remote
control
Symptom 5: Excessive noises and vibrations of condensing unit
MAINTENANCE
In order to ensure optimal availability of the air conditioning system, a
number of checks and inspections on the condensing unit, the field
wiring and the field piping have to be carried out at regular intervals,
but at least once a year.
Maintenance activities
The following activities should be carried out at least once a year:
1. Condenser coil
Remove dust and any other contaminant from the coil fins using
a brush and a blower. Blow from the inside of the unit. Take care
not to bend or damage the fins.
2. Field wiring and power supply
Check the power supply voltage on the local supply panel.
The voltage should correspond to the voltage marked on the
identification label of the unit.
Check the connections and make sure they are properly
fixed.
Check the proper operation of the circuit breaker and the
earth leak detector provided on the local supply panel.
3. Internal wiring of the condensing unit
Visually check the switch box on loose connections (terminals
and components). Make sure that the electrical components are
not damaged or loose.
4. Earth connection
Make sure that the earth wires are still connected properly and
that the earth terminals are tightened.
Symptom 2.3: High-pressure switch (S1PH)
POSSIBLE CAUSES CORRECTIVE ACTION
Condenser fan does not operate
properly.
Check that the fan turns freely, clean
it, if necessary.
Check motor wiring.
Check the capacitor with tester.
Dirty or partially blocked condenser Remove obstacle or clean
condenser coil properly using brush
and blower.
Inlet air temperature of the
condensing unit is too high.
The temperature measured at the
inlet of the condensing unit should
not exceed 43°C.
RESET
After finding the cause, push the
button on the high-pressure switch
housing (S1HP) inside the switch
box of the condensing unit.
Symptom 2.4: Compressor thermal protector (Q1M) (only for ER 3DA units)
POSSIBLE CAUSES CORRECTIVE ACTION
Compressor motor coil temperature
too high
Compressor is not cooled sufficiently
by the refrigerant medium.
RESET
After temperature decrease, the
thermal protector is reset
automatically.
If the protector is activated
frequently, call your local Daikin
dealer.
Symptom 2.5: Discharge thermal protector (Q1D) (not for ER 3DA units)
POSSIBLE CAUSES CORRECTIVE ACTION
Unit is working out of operation
range (outdoor temperature too high
to obtain low indoor temperature)
Increase the temperature setting on
the thermostat or wait until the
outdoor temperature has decreased.
RESET
After temperature decrease the
thermal protector is reset
automatically.
If the protector is activated
frequently, call your local Daikin
dealer.
Symptom 2.6: Condenser fan thermal protector (Q2M) is activated
POSSIBLE CAUSES CORRECTIVE ACTION
Mechanical failure (fan is blocked) Check that the fan rotates free.
Air flow in the condensing unit too
low or outdoor temperature too high
Clean the condenser coil and air
outlet properly.
RESET
After temperature decrease, the
thermal protector is reset
automatically.
If the protector is activated
frequently, replace the motor or call
your local Daikin dealer.
Symptom 2.7: Reverse phase protector (R1P) is activated (not for ER 3DAV1 units)
POSSIBLE CAUSES CORRECTIVE ACTION
Two phases of the power supply are
connected in the wrong phase
position.
Invert two phases of the power
supply (by licensed electrician).
POSSIBLE CAUSES CORRECTIVE ACTION
One of the safety devices is
activated.
Check safety devices (refer "Symp-
tom 2: One of the following safety
devices is activated:" on page 5.
Voltage is too low. Test the voltage in the supply panel
and, if necessary, in the electrical
compartment of the unit (voltage
drop due to supply cables is too
high).
POSSIBLE CAUSES CORRECTIVE ACTION
The temperature setting on the
remote control is too low.
Check and adjust the temperature
setting (refer to the operation manual
of the corresponding air conditioner
for a correct adjustment).
The heat production in the room is
too high.
The cooling capacity of the unit is too
low. Call your local Daikin dealer.
Dirty air filter of the air conditioner Clean or replace the air filter. Refer
to the operation manual of the
corresponding air conditioner.
The service panel of the air
conditioner is open and the air does
not circulate over the evaporator.
Close service panel and tighten it up.
Dirty evaporator coil of the air
conditioner
Clean evaporator coil. Refer to the
operation manual of the correspond-
ing air conditioner.
POSSIBLE CAUSES CORRECTIVE ACTION
Shipping stay has not been removed
from compressor (for ER3DA units
only).
Remove the shipping stay.
Condensing unit has not been fixed
properly.
Fix the unit as described in the
installation manual.
Before carrying out any maintenance or repair activity,
always switch off the circuit breaker on the supply panel,
remove the fuses or open the protection devices of the air
conditioner, the compressor motor and the condenser fan
motor.
Do never clean the condensing unit with water under
pressure
The field wiring and power supply must be checked by a
licensed electrician.
