9.3.2 Basic safety rules
WARNING
Long-term inhalation of engine exhaust fumes can pose a health risk.
WARNING
Do not use the machine if you are unable to summon help in the event of an
accident.
Never use the machine without a guard or with a defective guard.
Never use the machine without the drive shaft.
Do not use grass blades to cut down woody stems.
Do not use the machine in adverse weather conditions, e.g. heavy fog, driving rain, strong
wind, intense cold, etc. Working in these conditions is tiring and often involves additional
risks, such as ice forming on the ground, etc.
Switch off the engine before moving to another area.
Never place the machine on the ground while the engine is running.
Always use the correct equipment.
Make sure the equipment is well adjusted.
Organize your work carefully.
Always use full throttle when starting to cut with the blade.
Always use sharp blades.
WARNING
Do not attempt to remove cut material while the engine is running or the cutting
device is moving. Stop the engine and cutting device before removing material
caught around the blade.
The bevel gear can get hot during use and may remain so for a while afterwards.
You could get burnt if you touch it.
Mufflers with catalytic converters become very hot during operation, and retain
heat for a long time after the engine has been stopped. This is the case even
with the engine idling. Contact can cause skin burns and be a fire hazard.
Do not operate your machine if the muffler is damaged, missing or modified.
9.4 GRASS TRIMMING WITH A TRIMMER HEAD
WARNING
Do not use a longer thread than recommended (Fig. 18). With the guard correctly
fitted (Fig. 5), the built-in cutting device automatically adjusts the appropriate
thread length. The use of excessively long threads can overload the engine and
cause damage to the friction mechanism and adjacent parts.
