8 FRONT FORK on Disc Brake Models Front Fork 1 Front Fork Maintenance The front fork construction is shown in Fig 332 The front fork consists of the two front shock absorbers mounted to die frame head pipe via die steering stem and stem head Each shock absorber is a telescopic tube made up of an inner tube outer tube springs cylinder piston and valve Shock damp ing is accomplished by die springs by air being compressed in the tubes and by the flow resistance of the fork oil flowing between die inner and outer tubes Oil is prevented from leaking out of the tubes by an oil seal on the upper part of the outer tube A dust shield on die outside of the tubes stops dirt and water from entering and damaging die oil seal and the tube surfaces After 74 model Front Spring Force os Disassembly Fig 333 i Remove the top bolt take out the spacer spring guide 01 and spring and then empty the fork oil ii Remove the dust shield from the outer tube iii Stop the upper part of the fork cylinder assembly from turning by using special tools unscrew the Allen bolt from the lower part of the outer tube and pull out the inner tube Special tools S2A 57001 183 57001 175 After 74 models 57001 142 or 57001 183 57001 176 I Steering Stem Hea 2 O Ring 3 Stem Head Bolt 4 Stem Head Clamp 5 Fork Cover Bolt 6 Fork Cover Guide 7 Gasket 8 Steering Stern 9 Inner Tube 10 Outer Tube 1 1 Dust Shield 12 Circlip 13 Washer 14 Oil Seal 15 Spring 16 Cylinder Assembly 17 Spring 18 Valve 19 Piston 20 Circlip 21 Fork Cylinder Bolt 22 Axle Clamp 23 Stud Bolt 24 LockWasher 25 Nut 26 Gasket
