2.1.1 Overview of Copy Application Operation
During copying, the image information data is input from the scanning unit and printed by the printing unit. If the
machine is set in the Document Storage mode during copying, then the image information is copied and stored in
memory. Similarly, image information input from the scanning unit using the Document Server feature can be stored
without printing, and documents stored in the image memory can be printed.
Passwords can be assigned to documents when they are stored, thus requiring successful entry of the password
before printing. Further, user settings can be enabled to limit the access of users to the copy application.
2.1.2 Copy Data Flow
During copying, the copy request for the ECS is sent from the copy application, and then the scanning request for
image scanning unit is conducted while the ECS stores the image in image memory of the volatile RAM. The image
data scanned by the scanning unit is stored by the IMH in image memory. Next, the ECS directs the printing of the
image scanned by the scanning unit and stored in the image memory, and the number of specified copies for the
image scanned by the scanning unit and stored in the memory are printed by the IMH. After the specified number of
copies have been printed, the ECS, through the MCS, erases the image information from the memory.
If documents are stored simultaneously with copying, or if document storage with the Document Server function is
selected, the image information is created through the MCS, and then documents are created and stored on the HDD.
When documents stored with the Document Server feature are printed, the copy application selects the document to
print from the document information managed by the MCS and executes the ECS print request for the selected
document.
The copier application stores the calculations for the number of copies for each copy mode and the number of jobs in
non-volatile RAM. The storage timing is the amount of time to complete printing 1 sheet of various sizes the time to
complete the copy job. These logs confirmed by displaying them with the SP codes, or printing with an SMC report.
2.1.3. Copy Security Considerations
When a copy job ends, the processing information must be cleared, so it is not possible to execute a job re-print
immediately after a copy job ends.
Documents stored with passwords can be printed only after the password has been entered successfully.
As the copy application has no direct access to an external I/F, there is no chance of application data becoming mixed
with illegal data.
