CYLINDERS AND PISTONS

INSTALLING THE PISTONS AND CYLIN-

DERS

The following procedure applies to all of the pis-

tons and cylinders.

1. Install:

 top ring

 2nd ring

 lower oil ring rail

 upper oil ring rail

 oil ring expander

 Be sure to install the piston rings so that the

manufacturer’s marks or numbers

are lo-

cated on the upper side of the rings.

 The piston rings that have an “R” mark must be

installed into the 2nd ring groove.

2. Install:

 piston

 piston pin

 piston pin clip (New)

 Apply engine oil onto the piston pin.

 Make sure that the arrow mark

on the piston

points towards the exhaust side of the engine.

 Before installing the piston pin clip, cover the

crankcase opening with a clean rag to prevent

the piston pin clip from falling into the crank-

case.

 Reinstall each piston into its original cylinder

(numbering order starting from the left: #1 to

#4).
