Chapter 6 DHCP CONFIGURATION
6.1 Brief introduction
DHCP packet is broadcasting packet so in layer 3 network structure and using DHCP to
distribute IP address, each broadcasting domain needs a DHCP server. For layer 3 network
structure by using QTECH QSW-3200 to establish a layer 3 network, each VLAN needs a
DHCP server which greatly wastes of resources. A better way to solve this problem is to
configure DHCP relay in QTECH QSW-3200 to relay DHCP packet to DHCP server which can
need at least only one DHCP server.
Following DHCP functions are supported:
Support DHCP relay function
Support specifying DHCP server for each vlan
Support built-in DHCP server
Support DHCP client to obtain system IP
6.2 DHCP configuration
6.2.1 DHCP configuration list
DHCP configuration list is as following:
Enable DHCP relay
Specify DHCP server for vlan
Display DHCP server configuration
6.2.2 Enable DHCP relay
By default, DHCP relay is disabled. Enable DHCP relay in global configuration mode:
Enable DHCP relay
dhcp-relay
Disable DHCP relay
no dhcp-relay
Display DHCP relay in any configuration mode:
Display DHCP relay
show dhcp-relay
Example:
! Enable DHCP relay
QTECH(config)#dhcp
! Disable DHCP relay
QTECH(config)#no dhcp
! Display DHCP relay
QTECH(config)#show dhcp-relay
6.2.3 Configre DHCP servers for each VLAN
After creation of VLAN, DHCP servers can be configured for it. Thus DHCP messages of this
VLAN will be relayed to the specified DHCP servers of this VLAN.Two DHCP servers can be
configured for each VLAN.Please use the following commands in VLAN configureation mode:
