Start-up
· Oil the blade set (Fig. 5).
· Connect to the mains power supply.
· Using the on/off switch, switch on the appliance (Fig. 1
ⓐ
).
Note for types 1170 and 1400: the audible click that can some-
times be heard when switching on the appliance is a result of the
torque of the alternating current drive unit. This is normal and no
failure of the appliance.
· Using the on/off switch, switch off the appliance after use
(Fig. 1
ⓑ
) and disconnect from the mains.
Cutting length adjustment (Type 1170 and Type 1400)
· Without the attachment comb, the normal cutting length of the
appliance is approx. 0.1 mm.
· The cutting length can be adjusted between 0.1 and 3 mm, even
when the appliance is in use.
· Slide down the locking switch (Fig. 2
ⓑ
)
· By moving the adjustment lever at the side (Fig. 3
ⓐ
), it is possible
to set the cutting length at various pre-set positions (MultiClick).
· Sliding the locking switch upward (Fig. 2
ⓐ
) unlocks the setting
and restores the normal cutting length of approx. 0.1 mm.
Attaching/removing the attachment comb
· Slide the attachment comb on to the blade set in the direction of
the arrow until it reaches the limit stop (Fig. 4
ⓐ
).
· The attachment comb can be removed by pushing it in the direc-
tion of the arrow (Fig. 4
ⓑ
).
Cutting with attachment combs (Type 1170 and
Type 1400)
Depending on the model, various attachment combs are included in
the scope of supply. Attachment combs #1 (4.5 mm), #2 (6 mm), #3
(9 mm), #4 (14 mm), #5 (19 mm) and an adjustable attachment comb
(4 - 18 mm) are also optionally available as accessories.
To achieve the desired cutting lengths, the adjustment lever should
not be locked (Fig. 3
ⓑ
); to this end, slide the locking switch upward
(Fig. 2
ⓐ
).
Cleaning and Care
· Do not immerse the appliance in water!
· After each use, remove the hair clippings from the blade set with
the cleaning brush.
· Only wipe the appliance with a soft cloth, which may be damp-
ened slightly.
Do not use solvents or abrasives!
· For a long-lasting, good cutting performance, it is important to oil
the blade set frequently (Fig. 5).
· If the cutting performance deteriorates after long use despite regu-
lar cleaning and oiling, the blade set should be replaced.
· Use the blade guard when the appliance is not in use.
· Always store the appliance with the blade guard in place.
Changing the bottom blade and the top blade
· Switch off the appliance using the on/off switch (Fig. 1
ⓑ
).
