Pressthebottomofthisswitchtoputthemixerinto
standbymode.Itwillnotfunction,butthecircuitsare
stilllive.ToremoveACpower,eitherturnofftheAC
mainssupply,orunplugthepowercordfromthemixer
andtheACmainssupply.
Asageneralguide,youshouldturnthemixeron
rst,beforethepoweramplierorpoweredspeakers,
andturnitofflast.Thiswillreducethepossibilities
ofanyturn-on,orturn-offthumpsinthespeakers.
21. Power LED
You’ve probably already
guredthisout,butifthe
power[20]switchison,this
LED(light-emittingdiode),
locatedintheoutputsection,
willlight.Iftheswitchisoff,
well,yougettheidea.Ifthe
power switch is on and the
LEDdoesnotglow,oneof
threethingshashappened:
Somebodytrippedoverthe
power cord and yanked
itfromtheoutlet,your
electricity has been turned
offduetononpayment,or
thefusehasblown.
22. Phantom Switch
Thisswitchcontrolsthephantompowersupply
forallthemicinputs,asdiscussedonpage8.
Whenturnedon(oroff),thephantompowercircuitry
takesafewmomentsforvoltagetorampup(ordown).
Thisisperfectlynormal.Makesurethatyoupulldown
themasterfader,andheadphone/controlroomvolume
beforeengagingthephantomswitch.
23. 48V LED
Thisisjusttoletyouknowwhichwayyouhavethe
phantom[22]switchset.Ifyourdynamicmicswork
andyourcondensersdon’t,chancesarethisLEDisoff,
soturnthephantomswitchon.
You’llnoticethatwhenyouturnthephantom
poweroff,theLEDstaysonforawhile.Thisis
anaturalphenomenon—theLEDisactuallya
voltmetertellingyouthatthephantompowertakes
timetorampitselfdowntozerovolts.So,ifyou’ve
turnedphantompowerofftoconnectsomethingto
themicinputs,waituntiltheLEDstopsglowingand
thenmakeyourconnectionssafely.

Locatedinthetoprightcorneroftheoutput
section,this12Vsocketwilldriveanystandard
BNC-typelamp(aLittlite®#12Gor#12G-HI
(high-intensity),forinstance).

IfMr.Mono'smainmonomixismaxed,justreachfor
thisknobandturnitdownabit.Justthethingforsend-
ingmonosignalstomicinputslikecamcorders,tele-
phoneinterfaceboxes,evenansweringmachines.With
thepotallthewayup(fullyclockwise),you’llhave6dB
ofextragain,andunitygainisatthe12o'clockposition.
17. Voltage Selector
WARNING: BeforeyouplugtheACpower
cordintothe1642VLZ4,youmustmakesure
thatthisslideswitchissettothesame
voltageasthelocalACmainssupply.Onlyslide
the voltage switch with the power cord unplugged.
Useaatheadedscrewdrivertoslidetheswitch
ifneeded.Theswitchallowsyoutousethemixerin
differentcountriesandvoltages,meetinteresting
peoplefromothercultures,andentertainthem.
18. Power Connection
Just in case you lose the cord provided with the
1642VLZ4,itspowerjackacceptsastandard3-prong
IECcordlikethosefoundonmostprofessional
recorders,musicalinstruments,andcomputers.
WARNING:BeforeyouplugtheACpower
cordintothe1642VLZ4,youmustmakesure
thatthevoltageselector[17]slideswitchis
settothesamevoltageasthelocalACmainssupply.
WARNING: Disconnecting the plug’s ground
pin can be dangerous. Don’t do it.

The1642VLZ4isfusedforyour(anditsown)
protection.Ifyoususpectablownfuse,disconnect
thepowercord,popoutthefusedrawerwithasmall
atscrewdriver,andreplacethefusewitha1ASLO
BLO,5x20mm,availableatelectronicsstoresor
yourdealer(ora500mASLOBLO5x20mmif
your1642VLZ4issetto220V-240V).
