It often makes sense to monitor the input signal or send it directly to the output. This can be
done at zero latency using TotalMix (see chapter 24).
An automated control of real-time monitoring can be achieved by Steinberg’s ASIO protocol
with our ASIO drivers and all ASIO 2 compatible programs. When 'ASIO Direct Monitoring' has
been switched on, the input signal is routed in real-time to the output whenever a recording is
started (punch-in).
13. Operation under ASIO
13.1 General
Start the ASIO software
and select ASIO Ham-
merfall DSP as the audio
I/O device. The 'ASIO
system control' button
opens the HDSP Settings
dialog (see chapter 11,
Configuration).
13.2 Channel Count under ASIO
At a sample rate of 88.2 or 96 kHz, the ADAT optical input and outputs operate in S/MUX mode,
so the number of available channels per port is reduced from 8 to 4.
Please note that when changing the sample rate range between Single and Double Speed the
number of channels presented from the ASIO driver will change too. As some channels are
removed, SPDIF and AES move up in the list. This may require a reset of the I/O list in the au-
dio software, and will require a reassignment of the channels within the project.
