5. Unscrew and dry off the spark plug.

6. Open the throttle wide.

7. Pull the starter rope (Fig. 16) several times to clear the combustion chamber.

8. Refit the spark plug and connect the spark plug boot, pressing it down firmly.

9. Set the starter lever to the OPEN position (B, Fig. 15), even if engine is cold.

10. Start the engine (see chapter 8.3 Starting procedure).

8.6 RUNNING IN THE ENGINE

The engine reaches maximum power after the first 5÷8 hours of work.

During this running-in period, do not run the engine at full speed to avoid excessive stress.

WARNING

During running-in, do not vary the carburetion to obtain a presumed increase in

power; the engine could be damaged.

NOTE

It is normal for a new engine to smoke during and after its first use.

9 USING THE MACHINE

9.1 SAFETY CHECKS

WARNING

Run the following safety checks before each use of the machine and any time the

machine is impacted or dropped.

• Make sure the handles are clean, dry and properly and securely attached to the machine.

• Ensure that the cutting device guard is correctly and firmly attached to the machine and

that it is free from damage or signs of wear.

• Check that the harness is in good condition and properly balanced (see chapter 7.2 Harness).

• Check that the screws on the machine are properly fastened.

• Make sure that the cutting device is clean, not damaged or worn.

• Check that the machine is properly secured to the transport structure.

• Check that the blade is sharp.

• Check that the cooling vents are not clogged.

• Make sure the machine has no signs of damage or wear.

• Check that the throttle lever and the throttle stop lever move freely.

• Carry out a test drive and check that there are no abnormal vibrations or sounds.

• Check that the throttle lever and throttle stop lever, if released, quickly return to neutral.
