The sn0108a sn0116a sn0132 sn0148 sn9108 sn9116 are console servers that provide remote serial access to up to 8 sn0108a sn9108 16 sn0116a sn9116 32 sn0132 or 48 sn0148 servers or other serial it devices hubs routers power management devices etc via a telnet or ssh tcp ip connection serial console server devices can work in tandem with other remote management products such as altusen pn5 pn7 and pn0108 power over the net devices to provide convenient reliable and effective remote data center device management 15

If you wish to use a console terminal connection use cat 5e cable to connect any available port on the sn9108 sn9116 to the dte to dte serial adapter sa0141 or sa0143 connect the adapter s serial connector to the console terminal or the com port of the computer you will use for the console terminal then use oob to specify the console port in the console settings see oobc page 106 43

The preferences page allows users to set up their own individual working environments the serial console server stores a separate configuration record for each user profile and sets up the working configuration according to the username that was keyed into the login dialog box 78

The port alert strings dialog box provides a way for you to be informed about problems that occur on the devices connected to the serial console server s ports 87
When a device has a problem such as a critical error that requires a reboot or an snmp trap event has been triggered debug messages can be sent through its serial port to the serial console server s com port 87
When the serial console server receives such a message it can send an snmp trap alert and or an email to inform the user specified here of the problem you can specify up to 10 types of alerts 87

Login failures for increased security the login failures section allows administrators to set policies governing what happens when a user fails to log in successfully 123
Note if a login fail policy is not enabled users can attempt to log in an unlimited number of times with no restrictions for security purposes we recommend that you enable this function and enable the lockout policies 123

Power management the power management page is used to associate a pon outlet with a serial device s port on the serial console server once an association has been made the power status of the device attached to the port can be controlled from the port access page rather than having to control the power status by opening a separate web session to the pon device 127
The association tab lets you make your power management settings such as synchronizing on off reboot with associated pon power over the net devices 127

The log file tracks a maximum of 512 events when the limit is reached the oldest events get discarded as new events come in the purpose of the buttons at the bottom of the page are described in the table 133
The serial console server logs all the events that take place on it to view the contents of the log click the log tab the device s system log page appears 133
The system log page displays events that take place on the serial console server and provides a breakdown of the time the severity the user and a description of each one you can change the sort order of the display by clicking on the column headings 133
