The gas burners There are indications to show which burner each control knob operates Fig 1 Fig 1 f Fig 2 11 Thermocouple Sparker Fig 3 Both rings inner and outer burn at full power è The outer ring burns at mininum power the inner ring burns at full power To light a burner press the control knob which corresponds to the burner you wish to light and turn it anticlockwise to maximum hold it in this position for a few seconds until the burner lights and then release it and turn it to the desired level of heat If the burner does not light repeat the process If the ignition sparkers are dirty this makes the burner harder to light so you should keep them as clean as possible Clean them using a small brush and remember that the ignition sparkers must be treated very gently Your hob may be fitted with safety thermocouples which prevent gas from being released if the burners are accidentally turned off Fig 2 In order to use and turn on this modern system proceed in the usual manner but keep the control knob pressed until the gas lights the flame appears and it does not go out when you release the knob If the burner does not light repeat the procedure but this time hold the knob pressed in for 1 5 seconds To turn it off turn the control knob clockwise to the position Your modern hob is fitted with taps which allow you to select the flame you require from between the maximum and minimum positions Depending on the model your hob may be fitted with a double flame burner which is very practical and useful for cooking with large pans Woks all types of Asian food etc If your hob has a double flame burner it will have taps which allow you to control the inner and outer flames separately Description of how it works Fig 3 The inner ring burns at full power the outer ring is turned off When you are using this gas appliance it will make the kitchen hot and humid and therefore you must ensure that the kitchen is well ventilated Keep all natural ventilation openings clear or install a mechanical ventilation device cooker hood If you use your appliance for a long period of time you may need extra ventilation either open a window though watch out for draughts or turn up the power on the extractor hood if possible When being used for the first few times it may produce a slight smell The inner ring burns at mininum power the outer ring is turned off 6 An orange coloured flame is normal and it is produced in the presence of dust in the atmosphere spillages etc
