Ferrari, a name famous throughout the world,
synonym for state-of-the-art technology, perfor-
mance and quality, has chosen Tecnoclima units
for the air-conditioning system of their renowned
Scaglietti plant in Modena, where bodywork for
their most famous car models is produced.

As part of a modernization and validation process of Ferrari properties, Paolo Burani, an engineer-surveyor
in Modena, was given the task of designing the new air-conditioning system for the historic plant, which
currently produces the bodywork for the brand new Ferrari 612, presented this year at the Detroit show. Fer-
rari plans involved the implementation of a new winter-summer air treatment system to create an extremely
comfortable, all-year-round working environment for its staff.
The initial project included the design of a classic system with central thermal unit, central refrigeration
unit, electrical substation, hot and cold water distribution circuits and twenty-four air treatment units lo-
cated outside the building, close to the perimeter walls, with diffusion of air into the environment by means
of fabric ducts.
HIGH-EFFICIENCY SYSTEM wITH LOw MAINTENANCE IMPACT
After a careful technical and economic evaluation, the designer, with full agreement of the customer, opted
for a different solution, involving the use of twenty-four independent, fully integrated “roof top” air-treatment
units offering high efficiency and low maintenance impact. Eighteen units are used to provide air-condition-
ing to the larger plant, where the aluminium bodywork for the 612 is produced, each with 200 kW refrigera-
tion and 300 kW thermal capacity and airflow of 25,000 m

between 10,000 and 6,000 m

.p.h. and 65 kW cooling-89 kW heating capacity, are required instead to
provide air treatment in the plant destined to produce carbon bodywork for the Enzo. All the units are fully
automatic, with both heating and cooling capacity differentiation. This new solution, chosen by the designer
has a full three-year Tecnoclima guarantee, has allowed a two-thirds reduction in the initial investment nec-
essary to produce the air conditioning system, increased system efficiency, reduced maintenance costs,
resolved a number of technical problems and, above all, satisfied a series of very special and highly complex
requirements.
A 100% EXTERIOR AIR SYSTEM: EXTREMELY DIFFICULT CHALLENGE
“The most important and most difficult requirement to satisfy was the fact that the system had to be based
100% on outside air due to the kind of processes performed inside the plant”, explains Alfonso Vescovi, Tecn-
oclima managing director. “The design for the larger plant involved the emission of 440,000 m
