Operation of RIDGID cut-out device. (Fig. 1)
Important:
Test unit before each use.
Plug unit into power supply socket. Press reset to switch on unit.
Red indicator will show. Press test button. Unit must switch off and
indicator will be black.
Do not use if unit does not switch off when test button is pressed.
Press reset to use equipment. If unit switches off repeatedly do not
use and have the equipment inspected by a RIDGID service center.
Note: Unit switches off and must be reset after power has been
disconnected.
Safety
The K-60SP has a quick-acting “dead man” clutch for safety which allows the
cable to stop instantly when desired.
1. Wear operator’s glove. Never grasp a rotating cable with a cloth or
loose fi tting glove which can get caught in cable. Only use a Ridgid
leather glove with metal staples in the palm to handle rotating cables.
2. Cables. Normally the cable is rotated clockwise at all times. Counter-
clockwise rotation can result in cable damage and is used only to back
a tool out of an obstruction. Overstressing the cable can be dangerous
to the operator, as it may twist or kink. Do not use badly worn cables or
jaws.
3. Use a Guide Hose to prevent whipping and picking up debris by the
cable.
4. Use recommended equipment and accessories. Consult the
Catalogue for listings of such equipment. Use of improper equipment
may be hazardous.
5. Disconnect Power Cord before servicing and making any adjustments.
Operating instructions
Before operating the machine, the operator should become familiar with the
patented RIDGID/Kollmann T-Slot Speed Coupler method of joining cable and
tools (See Fig. 2).
Using 5/8” or 7/8” Sectional Cable. (Fig. 3a,b,c - Fig. 4)
Make sure machine clutch is “set” for using 5/8” or 7/8” cable. If needed loosen
screw (Fig. 3a), adjust clutch (Fig. 3b) and tighten screw (Fig. 3c). Position the
machine one or two feet from the line opening and attach the Guide Hose at
the rear of the machine. Do this by lifting up the Lock Pin on the Guide Hose
Adapter, and sliding the Guide Hose Adapter onto the back end of the machine
until it locks in place. Plug the cord into any convenient electrical outlet.
Insert the fi rst cable (and additional cables) into the front of the machine and
push it through the Guide Hose until a foot or so remains out the front of the
machine.
Never couple more than one cable at a time!
The fi rst tool to use is the Bulb Auger, this being the best tool for going around
elbows. Snap it on, check coupling, make sure it is secure. Push cable by
hand into the line, holding the cable loosely in left hand. Put Switch into “1”
(Fig. 6) position and pull down on Clutch Handle with a defi nite snap to rotate
cable. A slow or gradual engaging of the Clutch Handle results in a weak grip
of the Clutch Jaws and causes excessive wear.
The clutch is instant acting and returning the Clutch Handle to its original
position frees the cable instantly. There is no overrun to loop or break the
cable-an important safety feature.
As soon as the excess cable has gone into the line, release the Clutch Handle
and pull six to ten inches of cable out of the machine. Repeat the engaging of
the clutch and this process, adding more cable sections as needed to reach
the obstruction. Remember, never couple more than one cable section at a
time!
When the obstruction is reached, advance the cable inches at a time. At this
point the tool will do the work.
When the obstruction has been removed allowing passage of water, it is
recommended that a Straight Auger or Grease Cutter be used to ream out the
line ensuring a thorough job.
Use of REV (reverse)
The “2” (reverse) or counterclockwise running of the cable is only to free the
tools when they become snagged in an obstruction. Always let the motor come
to a complete stop “0” before reversing and, as soon as the tools are free,
return to “1” (forward).
Continuing to run in “2” (reverse) risks breakage of the cable, since the cable is
wound to have maximum strength in clockwise or “1” (forward) position.
To bring the cable out, leave the switch in “1” (forward) position. Holding the
cable against the edge of the inlet, pull down on the Clutch Handle for several
seconds.
The cable will rapidly “thread” itself out of the line until a partial loop forms
in front of the machine. Release Clutch Handle and push excess cable back
through machine and repeat until all cable is out of the line.
