• Put the grinding head on the base and connect the two parts
by means of the supplied bolt and nut with washers (Fig. A).
• Tighten the nut using the spanner (included).
INSTALLING THE SHARPENER ON A WORKSHOP BENCH
It is recommended to secure the chain sharpener to a workshop
bench or stand using holes in the base designed for that purpose,
which guarantees its safe operation. The base should be installed in
such a manner to allow a chain to hand freely (Fig. B).
OPERATION / ADJUSTMENTS
SWITCHING ON /SWITCHING OFF
The mains voltage must correspond to the value specified on the
sharpener nameplate.
Switching on - put the switch button (1) to the I position.
Switching off - put the switch button (1) to the O position.
SETTING THE CHAIN LOCK
Disconnect the tool from power source.
• Loosen the chain tensioner knob (10) and grinding depth
adjustment knob (14).
• Place your chain in the chain guide (9) and between chain
fastening plates (6) (Fig. C).
• Secure the chain by tightening the chain lock knob (8) so that is
can be moved (a chain well secured prevents the grinding disc
from jamming in contrary to a loose chain) (Fig. D).
• Lower the bracket (7) and slightly pull the chain back so that the
bracket (7) leans against the cutting tooth (Fig. E).
SETTING THE GRINDING ANGLE
A majority of commonly used chains has cutting tooth angles of
25º, 30º or 35º. A cutting tooth angle is usually given by a chain
manufacturer.
If you do not know an exact cutting tooth angle, it is usually
sufficient to take a close look at existing teeth.
A cutting tooth to be sharpened should be set under the grinding
disc to obtain its proper position. To do so, the grinding disc should
be set (approximately) at such an angle to copy a cutting tooth
profile.
• The grinding angle should be set, when the grinding disc does
not rotate.
• Before the chain is moved to another cutting tooth, switch off
the tool and wait until it comes to a full stop.
• All cutting teeth of the chain must be evenly sharpened.
Uneven sharpening may cause lateral displacement of
the chain during sharpening, as well as poor and uneven
sharpening.
Disconnect the device from power source.
• Set the turntable (13) to a proper angle (according to an angle
specified by a chain manufacturer) using the angle graduation
(12) located on the base (11) (Fig. F).
• Lower the grinding head and carefully approach the grinding disc
(5) to the sharpened link.
• Slightly pull the chain back so that the bracket (7
) leans against
the cutting tooth (Fig. G).
• Make an adjustment by means of the chain tensioning knob (10)
moving the tooth forward until the lower part of the grinding disc
touches the tooth cutting edge (Fig. H).
Make sure all chain teeth are sharpened at the same angle. As
you sharpen, control the angle of the sharpened teeth. The angle
may change due to vibrations generated during sharpening.
SETTING THE GRINDING DEPTH
The maximum sharpening depth is set by means of the grinding
depth adjustment knob. First, set the maximum grinding depth for
the most worn cutting tooth. All other teeth will be sharpened to the
same depth. Do not change the grinding depth set for the cutting
tooth in the same chain.
Disconnect the tool from power source.
• Fasten the chain in the chain guide (9) and clamp it using the
chain lock (8).
• Keep lowering the grinding head until the grinding disc (5)
touches the sharpened link (the depth stop should be set so the
grinding disc (5) is located lower than the cutting link).
• Set the grinding depth by means of the grinding depth adjustment
knob (14) (it may be necessary to move the chain link forward or
backward using the chain tensioning knob (10) (Fig. I).
SHARPENING THE CHAIN
A correctly sharpened chain can easily saw wood without any
pressure onto a circular saw and produce large wood shavings.
When a chain become blunt (even one or two cutting teeth), it can
be noticed that it is necessary to put more pressure on a circular
saw, which produces large amounts of wood dust instead of long
wood shavings.
A chain should be sharpened as soon as you notice that your circular
saw does not saw correctly and requires more pressure to be applied
when sawing. Blunt or damaged cutting teeth may cause uneven
and inaccurate sawing and may prematurely wear the chain and
break chain links.
Before you begin sharpening a chain, make sure it is not
damaged.
Check the chain for broken teeth or used links, loose or damaged
rivets.
If any damages of the chain are found, it should be immediately
repaired or replaced in an authorised service centre.
• Tighten the chain lock knob (8) (it prevents the grinding disc from
jamming as a result of a loose chain).
• Check the maximum sharpening depth setting, chain tensioning
and grinding angles.
• Switch off the tool using the switch (1).
• Holding and slightly pulling the chain backward with one hand so
that it leans against the bracket (7), keep lowering the grinding
head holding it by the handle (2) until the grinding disc (5)
touches the sharpened cutting tooth of the chain.
• Slowly guide the grinding disc against the cutting tooth edge until
a resistance is felt (approaching the disc too quickly and rapidly
may damage the grinding disc).
• Switch off the tool and move the chain one link forward and
repeat the operation (Fig. J).
• Applying this method, sharpen every other link of the chain. In
order to remember, which link the sharpening has been started
from, you can mark it with chalk.
• When all links on one side of the chain are sharpened, change the
grinding angle for other teeth to the same setting, but in opposite
direction. Other settings do not need to be changed.
Always make sure the angle of the locked tooth matches the
grinding angle. If not, move the chain one link forward.
When all cutting teeth of the same cutting angle are sharpened,
make sure the grinding depth stop distance is maintained,
before you begin to grind remaining cutting teeth.
Never attempt to sharpen chain links. Only cutting teeth should
be sharpened. Before the chain is moved to sharpen another
cutting tooth, switch off the tool and wait until the grinding disc
comes to a full stop.
OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE
Before any adjustment, maintenance or repair works are
commenced, disconnect the tool from the mains.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
• It is recommended to clean the tool after each use.
• Do not use water or other fluids for cleaning.
