2.3 Printer Application
2.3.1 Overview of Printer Application Operation
z The printer language processing subsystem uses the print data sent from the host computer as reference when
performing the conversion of the image data. The image data is printed by the print subsystem.
z When the user access rights to printing are in effect, the secondary information of the data sent from the host
computer and the confirmation code registered beforehand are used as reference, and if the print returns a
confirmation error, then the image is destroyed and not printed.
z The log is opened and created when print data from the host computer starts the language processing subsystem
for the print job. The log is closed at the conclusion of the print job.
2.3.2 Print Data Flow
z The print data sent from the host computer is interpreted by the language processing subsystem, and then drawn
as 2-digit bitmap as an image in page memory. After the image is drawn in page memory, it is compressed into
original Ricoh format, and then is written as image data on the HDD. When Normal Print is selected for the print
job, the print data is erased from the HDD after printing ends. When Sample Print is selected for the print job, the
image data is stored on the HDD. The stored image data can be re-printed, and after the re-printing the stored
data is erased. The stored image data s erased with the main power switch is cycled off. When Locked Print is
selected for the print job, the image data is stored on the HDD without printing. The stored image data can be
printed from the operation panel, the stored data is removed from the HDD at the end of the print job. The stored
image data is erased with the main power switch is cycled off and on. When Document Server is selected for the
print job, the image data is stored on the HDD without printing. The image data stored on the HDD can be printed
from the operation panel with the Document Server application, and the image data remains stored on the HDD
after the end of the print job. The stored image remains stored on the HDD after the main power switch is cycled
off and on.
z Page management information for image data stored on the HDD is written into volatile RAM. This page
management data, which exists in original Ricoh file format, is erased at the same time when the image data is
erased. When Document Server is selected for the print method, the required bibliographical information from
within the page management information is stored along with the image data on the HDD, but the page
management information itself is deleted at the completion of the image data storage.
z User codes, including the Lock Print user code, Document Server user code, log IDs, etc. are entered with the
driver UI. The confidential document print and Document Server passwords are also entered with the driver UI.
For details about how to set a document box password after documents have been stored, see the description of
the Document Box feature.
z The user name, page count, printing time duration, and job status are recorded in volatile memory. The log
information is erased when the machine is cycled off and on.
z The contents of the log can be viewed as original Ricoh MIB at SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol).
