2.4.Scanner Application
2.4.1 Overview of Scanner Application Operation
z At the scan command from the operation panel, the transfer function temporarily stores the image on the HDD,
and then transfers that image via the Plumeria network I/F. The TWAIN function is called from the TWAIN driver
on the PC connected to the network, the scanning is executed under the conditions specified, and then the image
is sent to the TWAIN driver.
z Access to the scanning feature of the machine can be limited by user code settings or with installation of an
external coin device. The user code settings and record-of-use settings previously set up on the TWAIN driver
side are also enabled.
z The time of scanning and image transfer is recorded. The record of the transfer is volatile, and the results of the
transfer can be confirmed only on the operation panel.
2.4.2 Scanner Data Flow
z The raw image data, developed by IMH processing in RAM, is compressed by user selection of a compression
method (MH, MR, MMR, JPEG), and a TIFF header is added (with the exception of JPEG files where the header
is not attached), and the files are transferred to the network in a commonly used format.
z User codes sent from the TWAIN driver flow on as binary data without changing, and the password set up on the
machine operation panel to protect a stored document is not sent to Plumeria or SmartNet Monitor. This
password is used to take a stored document from SmartNet Monitor, or to control access during a remote transfer.
2.4.3 Scanner Security Considerations
z Because only data that is determined functional for Plumeria on the network can be received, the transfer function
cannot receive illegal data from the external I/F. On the TWAIN side, a rigid command interface cannot receive
even one bit of illegal binary data.
z A single page image larger than 25 MB cannot be saved. Document size is limited to 500 pages or limited to a
size of 1GB, whichever is achieved first.
