1 19 Chapter 1 Tune up and routine maintenance 17 3 Lubricating a cable with a pressure lube adapter make sure the tool seats around the inner cable 18 8 On early models remove four screws and detach the signal generator cover from the left side of the engine 18 10 On later models remove the Allen bolts arrows and remove the alternator cover 18 9 and turn the crankshaft with a wrench on the turning bolt to align the T mark on the timing rotor with the line on the upper pickup coil 18 11a and turn the crankshaft with a socket on the bolt 3 Remove the seat see Chapter 7 and the fuel tank see Chap ter 3 4 If you re working on an FJ600 or XJ600 remove the upper fairing and side covers see Chapter 7 5 If you re working on an FZ600 remove the side covers center and lower fairings and air ducts see Chapter 7 6 If you re working on a YX600 Radian remove the horn see Chapter 8 7 Remove the valve cover see Chapter 2 Early models Refer to illustrations 18 8 and 18 9 8 Remove the signal generator cover to provide access to the crankshaft rotation bolt see illustration 9 Position the no 1 piston at the left side of the engine at Top Dead Center TDC on the compression stroke Do this by turning the crankshaft with an open end wrench placed on the flats of the timing rotor until the T mark on the timing rotor aligns with the line on the upper pickup coil see illustration Note Turn the crankshaft counter clockwise anti clockwise viewed from the left side of the engine 18 11b to align the T mark on the alternator rotor with the mark on the crankcase Later models Refer to illustrations 18 10 18 11a and 18 11b 10 Remove Ihe alternator cover to provide access to the crankshaft rotation bolt see illustration 11 Position the no 1 piston on the left side of the engine at Top Dead Center TDC on the compression stroke Do this by turning the crankshaft with a socket placed on the alternator rotor bolt until the T mark on the rotor is aligned with the stationary pointer on the pickup coil see illustrations Note Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise anti clockwise viewed from the left side of the engine
