Operations 22

To unseat the PCI riser boards, lift the assembly, and then remove the cage.

Install the PCI riser cage

CAUTION: To prevent damage to the server or expansion boards, power down the server and

remove all AC power cords before removing or installing the PCI riser cage.

1. Align the PCI riser boards with the corresponding connectors on the system board, and then insert the

cage.

2. Insert and then tighten the three screws of the PCI cage.

3. Install the processor air baffle (on page 20).

4. Install the access panel (on page 19).

5. Slide the server into the rack.

6. Connect each power cord to the server.

Systems running microsoft windows experience a blue screen trap when the os crashes when this happens microsoft recommends that system administrators perform an nmi event by temporarily shorting the nmi header with a jumper the nmi event enables a hung system to become responsive again 11
The nmi header enables administrators to perform a memory dump before performing a hard reset crash dump analysis is an essential part of eliminating potential reliability issues such as hangs or crashes in operating systems device drivers and applications many crashes can freeze a system requiring you to perform a hard reset resetting the system erases any information that supports root cause analysis 11
When the system maintenance switch position 6 is set to the on position the system is prepared to erase all system configuration settings from both cmos and nvram 11
When using the embedded smart array controller in an sff configuration only drives 1 2 3 and 4 are available 11

Using the t 10 screw from the optical drive kit and a t 10 t 15 torx screwdriver install the drive 43
Connect the cable from the rear of the drive to the sata dvd rom drive connector on the system board use cable hp part number 663771 001 to connect to the drive connect the blue and black end of the cable to the optical drive connect the longer blue end to the sata connector on the system board and the short black cable to the power connector 44
If you have a lff configuration do the following 44
Route the cable through the drive bay and then connect the cable to the rear of the optical drive 44
Memory options 45
All types are referred to as dimms when the information applies to all types when specified as lrdimm rdimm or udimm the information applies to that type only all memory installed in the server must be the same type 46
Depending on the processor model the number of dimms installed and whether lrdimms udimms or rdimms are installed the memory clock speed can be reduced to 1333 or 1066 mt s 46
Important this server does not support mixing lrdimms rdimms or udimms attempting to mix any combination of these dimms can cause the server to halt during bios initialization 46
Lrdimms support higher densities than single and dual rank rdimms and higher speeds than quad rank rdimms this support enables you to install more high capacity dimms resulting in higher system capacities and higher bandwidth 46

The server supports the following dimm speeds 46
Udimms represent the most basic type of memory module and offer lower latency in one dimm per channel configurations and relatively low power consumption but are limited in capacity 46
Certain performance features are unique with hp smartmemory hp smartmemory 1 5v ddr3 1333 registered memory is engineered to achieve the same performance level as 1 v memory for example while the industry supports ddr3 1333 rdimm at 1 v this gen8 server supports ddr3 1333 rdimm up to 3 dimms per channel at 1066 mt s running at 1 5v this equates to up to 20 less power at the dimm level with no performance penalty in addition the industry supports udimm at 2 dimms per channel at 1066 mt s hp smartmemory supports 2 dimms per channel at 1333 mt s or 25 greater bandwidth 47
