NOTICE
It is normal for a few drops of water to escape from the mechanical seal from time to time. This is
especially true during the break-in period.
Depending on the water quality and number of operating hours, the mechanical seal can begin to
leak.
If water leaks constantly, have the mechanical seal replaced by a qualified technician.
7.1 Overview
Fault: Leak along the shaft
Possible cause Solution
Shaft seal worn or damaged. Check pump for impurities.
Replace the shaft seal.
Mechanical seal in a new pump is
stuck.
Open and close the pressure valve quickly during
operation.
Shaft seal assembled incorrectly. Assemble the shaft seal correctly. Use water and
soap as lubrication.
Elastomer damaged due to pumped
fluid.
Use a suitable elastomer for the shaft seal.
Too high a pressure. Use a suitable shaft seal combination.
Pump shaft is damaged. Replace the shaft.
Pump running dry. Replace the shaft seal.
Axial clearance set incorrectly.
Set the axial clearance correctly.
Fault: Leak along the pump sleeve
Possible cause Solution
Worn O-ring. Replace O-ring.
O-Ring isn‘t resistant to the pumped
fluid.
Use an O-ring made from a suitable material.
Pump not mounted free of tension. Remove the pressure from the pump and pipes.
Support the connections.
Install compensators where necessary.
Fault: Pump vibrates and/or causes noise.
Possible cause Solution
Coupling mounted incorrectly.
Mount the coupling parts parallel to each other.
Pump is not filled with media.
Fill and vent pump.
Little or no intake. Ensure sufficient supply of media.
Check and repair pipework.
Pump and/or motor bearings are
dama

ed.
Replace bearing.
NPSH value is too high (cavitation)
Improve suction conditions.
Pump is not working within its operating
range.
Adjust the system to operation within the operating
range or select an appropriate pump.
Deposits or blockages in the inner
pump.
Clean pump and pump parts.
Pump is placed on an uneven surface. Use an even surface or fix the pump to the ground.
