ENGINE BOTTOM END TRANSMISSION 7 5 Transmission Oil Oil Change In order for the transmission and clutch to function properly always maintain the transmission oil at the proper level and change the oil periodically Warm up the engine thoroughly so that the oil will pick up any sediment and drain easily Then stop the engine Place an oil pan beneath the engine Remove the transmission oil drain plug on the bottom of the engine and let the oil drain completely WARNING j oMotorcycle operation with insufficient deteri orated or contaminated transmission oil will cause accelerated wear and may result in trans mission seizure accident and injury NOTE oHold the motorcycle upright so that the oil may drain completely Oil Level Inspection Situate the motorcycle so that it is perpendicular to the ground If the motorcycle has just been used wait several minutes until the oil settles Check that the oil level comes up between the upper and lower levels through the oil level gauge on the right engine cover A Transmission Oil Drain Plug Check the gasket at the drain plug for damage Replace the gasket with a new one if it is damaged C Lower Level A Oil Level Gauge B Upper Level If the oil level is too high remove the excess oil with unscrew the drain plug If the oil level is too low add the correct amount After the oil has completely drained out install the drain plug with the gasket and tighten it to the specified torque Tightening torque 20 N m 2 0 kg m 14 5 ft lb of oil through the oil filler opening Use the same type and make of oil that is already in the engine Fill the engine with a good quality motor oil specified in the table Check the oil level NOTE o f the transmission oil type and make are unknown use any brand of the specified oil to top up the level in preference to running the engine with the oil level low Then at your earliest convenience change the oil completely Transmission Oil Grade SE class Viscosity SAE 10W30 or 10W40 Amount 0 75 L
