5 10 ENGINE RIGHT SIDE Friction and Clutch Plate Thickness Measurement 1 1 Friction Plate 1 Clutch Spring Friction and Clutch Plate Warp Inspection Friction Plate Clutch Housing Clearance Place each friction plate or clutch plate on a surface plate and measure the gap between the surface plate and each friction plate or clutch plate The gap is the amount of friction or clutch plate warp If any plate is warped over the service limit re place it with a new one Measure the clearance between the tangs on the friction plate and the fingers of the clutch housing If this clearance is excessive the clutch will be noisy If the clearance exceeds the service limit replace the friction plates Friction Plate Clutch Housing Clearance Standard 0 20 0 60 mm Friction and Clutch Plate Warp Standard not more than 0 15 mm Service Limit 0 3 mm Friction and Clutch Plate Warp Measurement Clutch Hub Spline Inspection Visually inspect where the teeth on the clutch plates wear against the splines of the clutch hub If there are notches worn into the splines replace the clutch hub Also replace the clutch plates if their teeth are damaged 1 Plate 2 Thickness Gauge 3 Surface Plate Clutch Spring Free Length Measurement Since the spring becomes shorter as it weakens check its free length to determine its condition If any of the springs is shorter than the service limit it must be replaced Clutch Spring Free Length Standard Service Limit 39 4 mm 37 9 mm A Clutch Hub Spline
