10 8 BRAKES Lining Thickness Measurement Brake Pads Pad Removal Remove the caliper from the disc and take out the piston side pad from the caliper holder Push the caliper holder toward the piston and then remove the pad from the caliper holder shaft 1 Lining Thickness A Pads B Caliper Holder C Holder Shaft 2 Service Limit Pad Lining Thickness mm Front and rear Standard 4 5 Service Limit 1 Pad Installation Push the caliper piston in by hand as far as it will go Install the insulator on the piston front only Install the anti rattle spring Install the piston side pad first and then install the remaining pad Master Cylinder WARNING j CAUTION Do not attempt to drive the motorcycle until a full brake lever or pedal is obtained by pumping the brake lever or pedal until the pads are against the disc The brake will not function on the first application of the lever or pedal if this is not done oBrake fluid quickly ruins painted or plated sur faces any spilled fluid should be completely wiped up immediately Pad Inspection Check the lining thickness and condition of the pads in each caliper If either pad is damaged replace both pads in the caliper as a set If the lining thickness of either pad is less than the service limit replace both pads in the caliper as a set Front Master Cylinder Removal Remove the banjo bolt to disconnect the upper brake hose from the master cylinder There is a flat washer on each side of the hose fitting
