Please read these instructions carefully and keep for
future use.
The sera air plus air pumps are especially energy saving
and powerful air pumps.
They are suitable for oxygen enrichment by means of an
airstone, for operating air-driven filters (e.g. sera inter-
nal filters L), or air-driven moveable decoration.
Assembly and safety advice:
• The air pump must be placed above the water surface
(dry and protected against splash water!), but not on
top or directly above the aquarium (fig. 1).
• We urgently recommend using the supplied sera non-
return valve/s with each hose connection as to pre-
vent danger of water flowing back (fig. 2). This also
considerably increases the life span of the mem-
branes and rubber shaft inserts.
Never leave the sera air pumps switched on for a
longer period without sufficient counter pressure (on
one or several outlets) or at temperatures below 5°C
(41°F). Otherwise the rubber parts may be subject to
wear and tear within shortest time, especially in case
of high pump performance (adjustable versions).
• Every air pump may eventually “wander” due to its
own vibration. Avoid this by placing it on a rough, en-
tirely flat plane. We recommend to secure it with
some wire or string that you may attach to the eye
on the back side of the casing’s bottom (fig. 3).
• Pull all mains plugs before you touch the aquarium
water!
• Do not place within the reach of children!
• Suitable only for operation outside the water!
• Suitable only for pumping air.
•
The sera air pump must only be used in closed, dry rooms.
• The sera air plus must always be placed inside the
house, in a safe and dry place, also if you use it for
oxygen enrichment of garden ponds (fig. 4).
• Protect against frost!
• Too high air humidity may cause corrosion of metal
parts. This and all follow-up damage is not covered by
warranty.
• Avoid direct sun irradiation and other heat sources.
• Do not touch pump or plug with wet hands, and avoid
splash water!
• Ensure that the electrical plug of the switched-on unit
is freely accessible at all times.
• If aquarium water has flown back into/up to the air
pump, immediately pull the mains plug and consult
your specialized retailer.
• The sera air pump must be used only for the stated
purpose.
• Attention! By all means pull mains plug before open-
ing the air pump!
• Damages of electric or electronic motor parts, the
cord or plug and the casing must only be repaired by
the manufacturer or by authorized repair workshops.
The air pump must be immediately disconnected
from the mains supply and must not be operated any
more before the damage is entirely repaired. This also
applies for deliberate alteration of these parts.
What to do if performance of the sera air plus decreases?
If performance of the sera air plus decreases, check
whether the connected filter or airstone is clogged and
whether the air hose has a kink or is clogged. Check the
air filter of the air pump (located at the bottom of the
pump – with the sera air 110 plus, fig. 5 –, or in the small
filter drawer – with the sera air 275 R plus and the sera
air 550 R plus, fig. 6) if this is not the case. If this does
not reveal considerable pollution, it is likely that the
membranes are worn out. When heavily polluted we
recommend to replace the air filter.
Depending on surrounding temperature and load, the
mem branes must be replaced after 6 – 12 months, with
every air pump. Membrane kits are available as spare
parts.
Please consult your specialized retailer in this case.
The membrane sets of the sera air 275 R plus and 550 R
plus are identical. The sera air 550 R plus merely con-
tains a second set.
If only a single set is to be replaced in the sera air 550 R
plus, you may install item No. 06732 (for sera air 275 R
