14. SAMPLING
Digitakt is a very competent and accessible sampler. It can sample audio from external sources via the
external inputs, and it can also sample audio internally from the Digitakt itself. The maximum sampling time
is 33
seconds and this is always available even if a project’s 64 MB of RAM memory is all used up.
14.1 SAMPLING MENU
The SAMPLING menu oers settings that control the dierent aspects of sampling.
Press [SAMPLING] to access this menu. Use the DATA ENTRY knobs to change the parameters.
14.1.1 REC
Press [FUNC] + [YES] to start sampling. Press [YES] to stop sampling.
14.1.2 ARM
Press [YES] to arm the sampler. The sampler is now in arm mode and it will start sampling when the
incoming audio exceeds the threshold level. See below. (Press [SAMPLING] + [NO] to cancel.)
14.1.3 THR
If you have selected to arm the sampler, the sampling begins when the incoming audio signal exceeds
the threshold setting. Set the threshold high enough so that it is not triggered by background noise, but
low enough that you capture all of the signal. (0–127)
14.1.4 SRC
Source selects between dierent incoming audio sources to sample from.
• EXT L sets the input source to INPUT L.
• EXT R sets the input source to INPUT R.
• EXT L+R sets the input source to INPUT L+R. The audio is summed together to mono.
• INT L sets the input source to the Digitakt internal audio left channel.
• INT R sets the input source to the Digitakt internal audio right channel.
• INT L+R sets the input source to the Digitakt internal audio L+R channels. The audio is summed
together to mono.
14.1.5 MON
Selects the option to monitor the incoming audio through the Digitakt or not. (NO, YES)
14.2 SAMPLING AUDIO
1. If you use an external audio source, connect it to the Digitakt.
2. Press [SAMPLING] to access the SAMPLING menu and then use DATA ENTRY knob G to set
SOURCE to your preferred audio input source.
3. Keep an eye on the audio input meter and play the audio source and make sure that the volume of the
audio source is as strong as possible, but without clipping or distorting. Set MON to YES to monitor
the incoming audio through the Digitakt.
4. Again, with an eye on the audio input meter, use DATA ENTRY knob F to set THR just above the indi-
cated background noise of the audio source (when it is not playing).
5. Press [YES] to arm the sampler and then play the sound source. When the incoming audio signal
exceeds the set threshold level, sampling will start.
6. Press [YES] when you want to stop sampling. The Digitakt then automatically normalizes the sample.
7. Use the DATA ENTRY knobs A and C to set the parameters TRIM START and TRIM END to trim the
