COOLING SYSTEM 3 5 Remove the left side cover Remove the reserve tank from the frame by remov ing the bolts Inspect the old coolant for visual evidence of cor rosion and abnormal smell see Coolant Deterio ration Coolant Filling CAUTION A Reserve Tank B Cap C Bolts Unscrew the cap off the reserve tank and pour the coolant into a container Place a container under the coolant drain plug and drain the coolant from the radiator and engine by removing the drain plug at the right engine cover Immediately wipe or wash out any coolant that spills on the frame engine or wheel Use coolant containing corrosion inhibitors made specifically for aluminum engines and radiators in accordance with the instruction of the manu facture s oSoft or distilled water must be used with the antifreeze see below for antifreeze in the cooling system If hard water is used in the system it causes scale accumulation in the water passages and considerably reduces the efficiency of the cool ing system Coolant Type Color Mixed ratio Freezing point Total amount Permanent type antifreeze for aluminum engines and radiators Green Soft water 50 coolant 50 35 C 31 F 1 4L Install the reserve tank on the frame with two bolts Install the drain plug Always replace the gasket with a new one if it is damaged Tighten the drain plug to the specified torque Tightening Torque 15 N m 1 5 kg m 11 ft lb A Water Pump Cover B Drain Plug Fill the radiator up to the bottom of the radiator filler neck with coolant and install the cap turning it clockwise about turn NOTE WARNING oCoolant on tires will make them slippery and can cause an accident and injury oPour in the coolant slowly so that it can expel the air from the engine and radiator oThe radiator cap must be installed in two steps First turn the cap clockwise to the first stop Then push down on it and turn it the rest of the way
