Chapter 2 Hardware Connections
VES-1616FE-55A User’s Guide
44
Connect wiring from end-user equipment to the lower ports of an MDF using a telephone
wire. Connect wiring from the telephone company to the upper ports of an MDF (see the
previous figure).
Use a punch-down tool to seat telephone lines between MDF blocks.
2.2.5 VDSL and POTS/ISDN Ports
Use the quick connector cables to connect the lines from the user equipment (VDSL modem)
to the VDSL ports and the lines from the central office switch or PBX (Private Branch
Exchange) to the POTS/ISDN ports. Make sure that the quick connector cable is not shorted
on the MDF.
The line from the user carries both the VDSL and the voice signals. For each line, the VES-
1616FE-55A has a built-in splitter that separates the high frequency VDSL signal from the
voice band signal and feeds the VDSL signal to the VES-1616FE-55A, while the voice band
signal is diverted to the POTS/ISDN ports.
Refer to Chapter 51 on page 279 for quick connector pin assignments.
1 Insert a bushing into a hole through which you want to insert the cables.
2 Thread the quick connector cable through the bushing.
3 Use the quick connector cables to connect the VDSL ports to compatible VDSL
modems.
4 Use the quick connector cables to connect the POTS/ISDN ports to the central office
switch or a PBX.
5 Bind the cables using cable ties after they are connected.
