16.6 Setting the water hardness
The descaling frequency is determined automatically on the basis of the use and water ow in the coffee maker. It may be
also adjusted to the water hardness. The coffee maker can be adjusted, to adapt it to the water hardness level. The water
hardness scale is from 1 to 4.
When the appliance is ready to use the message READY TO BREW appears on the display. To set the water hardness,
proceed according to the algorithm below.
The default setting is 3.
To determine the water hardness level, the user may perform a test using a tester included in the coffee maker set. Dip the
tester in water for 1 second. Take out the tester, shake off the water excess and read off the result after about 1 minute.
A dry tester has 4 green squares. After dipping the tester into water, the squares will change the color into pink. The
number of pink squares indicates the water hardness level 1, 2, 3 or 4.
On the basis of the obtained results, set the water hardness level in the coffee machine according to the above algorithm.
16.7. Descaling
This function allows to remove limestone residue from the coffee maker by using an integrated program. After using a cer-
tain amount of water determined by the water hardness level, the message DESCALING will appear on the LCD display
next to the messages connected with the use of the coffee maker. You can descale the appliance now or a t a later time.
However, remember that the message DESCALING will not disappear from the display until the full descaling process is
performed.
If the water hardness level is 1, the message DESCALING will appear after using about 60 l of water.
If the water hardness level is 2, the message DESCALING will appear after using about 50 l of water.
If the water hardness level is 3, the message DESCALING will appear after using about 40 l of water.
If the water hardness level is 4, the message DESCALING will appear after using about 30 l of water.
When the appliance is ready to use the message READY TO BREW appears on the display. To prepare the coffee maker
to the descaling process, proceed according to the algorithm below.
The message PERCENT indicates the amount of water that has been used from the last descaling process. If the dis-
played value amounts to 100%, the user has to perform the descaling process.
The message PROCESSES indicates the amount of descaling processes performed so far.
The message ON means: start the descaling process.
