Evaporative Emission Control System

Hose Inspection (Periodic Inspection)

•

Refer to Evaporative Emission Control System Check in

the Periodic Maintenance Chapter (chapter 2).

Separator Operation Test

WARNING

Gasoline is extremely flammable and can be explo-

sive under certain conditions. Make sure the area

is well-ventilated and free from any source of flame

or sparks; this includes any appliance with a pilot

light. Do not smoke. Turn the ignition switch OFF.

•

Remove the seat and left side cover (see Frame chapter).

•

Connect the hoses to the separator.

•

Disconnect the breather hose from the separator, and in-

ject about 20 mL (0.68 US oz) of gasoline [A] into the

separator [B] through the hose fitting.

•

Disconnect the evaporative fuel return hose [C] from the

fuel tank [D]

•

Run the open end of the return hose into the container

level with the tank top [E].

•

Start the engine, and let it idle.

If the gasoline in the separator comes out of the hose, the

separator works well. If it does not, replace the separator

with a new one.
